Overplayed Christmas Records

These are my Top Five overplayed Christmas records on radio. Songs/versions that I am so sick of that if I never heard them again it would be OK with me.

#1 "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" by Bruce Springsteen

#2 "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" by Elmo and Patsy.

#3 "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" by The Jackson 5

#4 "Winter Wonderland" by The Eurythmics

#5 "Blue Christmas" by Elvis PResley

Dis-honorable mention: "Christmas In The Northwest" by Brenda White and ANYTHING by Tony Bennett

Christmas Records I would like to hear more often on radio, just to name a few ...

"Snoopy's Christmas" by The Royal Guardsmen
"I Believe In Father Christmas" by Greg Lake
"A New York Christmas" by Rob Thomas
"Christmas Dream" by Perry Como
"Jingle Bells (J-I-N-G-L-E Bells)" by Frank Sinatra
"Christmas Wrapping" by The Waitresses
"Mary's Boy Child" by Boney M
"Jingle Bells (Reggae version) by Paul Revere & The Raiders

Hey--with the exception of the song by Paul Revere & The Raiders...we played all of the ones you wanted to hear more of on "Lite Rock KISS 98.1." www.literockkiss.com. The variety of Christmas music this year was amazingly good. Michael Buble's new "Christmas" CD was a real nice addition, plus Chicago did a new version of "My Favorite Things," and that was another winner. The Christmas music will continue until Midnight tonight.

I pesonally enjoyed playing it and other than "The Christmas Song" by Nat "King" Cole, my other favorite is "Christmas Is All In The Heart" by Steven Curtis Chapman.

I actually never heard "Grandma" this year, which for me personally was disappointing. I guess it's a love-it-or-hate-it song, and the haters won this year (at least in NYC and NJ). I agree about the others though.

I actually heard these numerous times this year... not that I'm complaining since I like them all.

Add "Santa Baby" by Eartha Kitt, Madonna or anyone else. Horrible annoying song.

Even worse was Michael Buble's version..."Santa Buddy". It just does not sound right. The other songs on his Christmas CD are great though.

"Christmas Wrapping" by The Waitresses

I recall "Christmas Wrapping" getting a lot of air time on 96.5 when it was "The Point" during the Christmas times it's format was in existence.

Here's a quick "old fart" story: I was on at an e. washington med. market when the Barking Dogs doing Jingle Bells was released in 1970-somthing..The promo copys came in just before Halloween. Perfect timing.THe request lines for that gawdam thing melted. The requests dropped off a bit but we were under orders to play it and play it again. Then, one day just before Christmas this guy comes on the phone and says the station is "going up in smoke" if he hears it one more time. He sounded serious, a little deranged and ended the call with "I do mean this".

So..if any of you bosses are doing a full format changeover and want to sanatize the airwaves before the switch...throw the Barking Dogs on and let it loop. You'll take the numz down to zero in a day.
