I am glad I am not alone. I thought "Wow, CHR is playing Death Cab For Cutie!?" But then I realized that it too " synthesized" for be them. I pondered that maybe the lead singer formed a spinoff with his lead vocals....then I did my research and also discovered that Owl City is just one guy with no relation to Death Cab For Cutie.
oops.. yeah, i meant Postal Service.. which is Benjamin Gibbard's of Death Cab's electronic alter-ego. I sort of lump them both together as the same band. The specific song ripped off, at least by the sparse intro, is "Such Great Heights" which got a lot of airplay on alternative and AAA formats.
Funny that Benjamin Gibbard was maybe a little too edgy to cross over to CHR, but his imitator gets lots of CHR airplay.
The only reason why they're playing Owl City so much on the radio is because their record label practically shoved the song up PD's throats. I'm still shocked by the fact that they're playing "Fireflies" on Alternative stations yet they don't play other new alternative acts. I could totally see "Fireflies" on CHR, in fact I'm surprised stations like KIIS and KAMP haven't added the song yet. I think it would still work well with the listeners of more rhythmic sounding stations. As far as Death Cab For Cutie and Owl City sounding similar, that's ridiculous! You could never compare Death Cab For Cutie to Owl City. Owl City is strictly autotune and synthesizer, Death Cab For Cutie is an actual band with instruments. I can see the comparison between Owl City and The Postal Service but not Death Cab. The reason why Death Cab For Cutie is not played on CHR is the same reason why they don't play Silversun Pickups, Foo Fighters and AFI on CHR, it's because they just don't cross over correctly.
