OWN

How is The Oprah Winfrey Network doing? Does anyone watch it or have it on their Satellite/Cable line up? I never hear any news (good or bad) about this network. Is the CW better than OWN?

The station TARGETS women, but that doesn't mean Women are going to actually watch! (or anyone for that matter!)

I saw a post somewhere today that they were laying off 30 people. So that probably tells
the story.

That was at the Harpo Studios in Chicago for Rosie's talk show. Rosie's talk show is doing that bad for OWN, that the extra staff isn't needed for certain segments of the show. Even some segments will no longer have a live audience. It won't surprise me if Rosie 's talk show gets cancelled completely, & not moved to 1st run syndication to try & save it. It was Oprah's original plan to have the show produced for syndication, but I read somewhere last year, that it was Rosie's idea to have her show on OWN instead.

I have to admit that I have found myself watching her station, when I simply never thought about it. Great production values, and some actual great ideas. If anything, the channel reminds me of a more polished TLC. Wierd considering how long TLC has been at these types of shows. I really love the Master Class show and Our America. Not saying its the best thing out there, but its very polished and I almost wonder if the name was different if it wouldn't have better ratings(I don't really know how the ratings are)

Perhaps Rosie made her "OWN" bed on this one. People seem to have tired of her and her
antics. You can't make yesterday's crazy funny today.

Oprah has plenty money and I would just tell her to burn some up on OWN. Didn't it take
her talk show awhile to catch fire also? Give it more time to get better......at least 2 or 3
years.....then throw in the towel if necessary.

Back the first time, Oprah was a small town girl with sass and could relate to the women of America as a working class woman.

Now she's one of the powerful elite. She'll never be able to go back to what she was. Even if she lost all her money.

Back then she was ONE of them, and the audience was part of her show. Now she's trying to tell people what they like, in stead of participating in being like them.

Maybe it's time to start a Cable Network Death Pool Thread?

OWN? Current? G4? (no fair nominating SOAP...)

For the past three weeks, the Rosie Show has taken the format of a sit-down, one-on-one interview with a single guest for 1-2 episodes (Dr Oz and Kathy Griffin got two hours each). There's no audience, no confetti, no band. Just a self-absorbed Rosie chatting mostly about herself to her guest. Sometimes it's riveting, sometimes it's dreadful.

I doubt she will ever go back to the format of the first two months. She keeps wailing that she isn't the same person she was when she did those shows in her early publicly-closeted thirties. Now that she's almost 50 (a new drinking game, take a shot every time she mentions her age), she isnt interested in doing much more than sitting with 1-2 people and chatting them up.

There's probably a market for that on OWN.

Just the thought of Rosie O'Donnell makes me want to hurl, at least with Oprah there is talent without the obnoxious attitude and OWN does have some interesting crime and medical shows.

Correct... there's no audience. Maybe that's the problem. Two hours of Kathy Griffin?? From what I've seen while channel surfing, the show looks like a clone of Joy Behar's show on HLN.

I think you have hit the nail on the head

It's just the opposite of the Joy Behar Show. Sometimes Joy would have 10-12 guests over the course of 6 segments. Plus, she had the obligatory HLN crime-craziness-of-the-day stories. Seems that Rosie is trying for more of a Charlie Rose type interview, albeit with D-list celebrities.

And in other news, Rosie O'Donnell, Ellen DeGeneres, and Tyra Banks are starting their own network ...

It actually won't work unless there's someone whose name starts with N.
