ownership questions etc

1. How long will Cumulus be allowed to own/control an illegal amount of stations in Nashville?
2. Curious why CBS has not dipped their toe in the Cumberland River?
3. What Nashville area group is the "safest" to work for overall? If there is such a thing.

And what's up with TNN coming back? Who is footing that bill? And on a side note, it would be great to see Katie Haas and Kathy Martindale back on the air doing real country. Bill Cody, too.

If the FCC treats them as they have CC, the answer is indefinitely.

They're only focusing on major Top 25 markets. They just sold West Palm Beach, and over the last few years sold very profitable stations in Buffalo, Portland, Kansas City, and Denver.

Regarding TNN, it's a co-production between Jim Owens (from Crook & Chase) and Luken Entertainment, who runs several low priced cable TV channels. My sense is that the majority of the programming will be old stuff from the Jim Owens archive. If they do anything new, it will be with Crook & Chase.

Bill Cody is definitely still on the air. He does the morning show on 650 WSM. I love listening to him.

1- go figure...who really runs the F-cc. You can buy 1067 for about $4m.

2- agree with Big A.

3- Good question, but if you kinda have limited options...SCGR, Tuned-In, Tony Richards at WHPY and Bud. Tough to get any traction with the few companies that don't churn people out.

In the eyes of the FCC, they don't own or control an illegal number of stations. The Volt Trust owns and controls 92.1 and 106.7. The trust can hold them until it finds a buyer that will pay its (and Cumulus's) price. It is, however, expected to look for a buyer, though the FCC has previously indicated it doesn't require trustees to turn every stone in its quest.

See the other answers. Nashville is too small for CBS.

3. What Nashville area group is the "safest" to work for overall? If there is such a thing.

Probably South Central, though I've always thought their programming strategy was really boring.
