The job postings have been on All Access for a couple of days:

Cat Country's morning show. Although Tad Lemire was OM/PD,the posting is for the morning show only.

Coast part time.

You've got to be kidding..BP is a no talent, plus I can't imagine him working in a current based format. He is so typecast in Providence.

You can't imagine him working in a current-based format ?
What's he doing now ? Mainstream AC at WSRS in Worcester.
Seems WSRS would qualify as a current format..
and WSRS just brought in its best ratings book in over 3 years this spring with Bruce in noon-4.
If he is a "no-talent," how did he manage a near clean-sweep of #1 books in Providence with B101
for so many years ?

And so, let me get this straight - being successful in one format for many years makes you typecast, and therefore un-hireable by any other station in the market ? That would leave out about half the jocks on the air in Providence right now.

Please, if you don't like the guy for some reason..be honest about it. Admit to your own personal opinions
and don't make false claims, asserting them as facts.

Personal attacks (especially un-based ones) are what make these boards such a joke.

Totally agree and if you notice this radiodood has posted only once so he just had to get his dig in. There might be some jocks whose styles pretty much limit them to certain formats but Bruce Palmer isn't one of them. He wasn't exactly doing some doowop schtick on B101.

The truth is, he's lucky he lasted as long as he did at B101. I hear that there were discussions several times to move him to nights and replace his shift with a "real" talent (Big John Beena). Sure his numbers were decent, but so was the rest of the station, and mornings and middays often out performed afternoons.

Please re-check your facts.
First off, Big John's named is spelled Bina.
Secondly, from many folks I know (and knew) at Oxford Street, there was NEVER discussion about air-shift changes between Cruisin Bruce and ANYone..
and finally, the morning and midday numbers NEVER out-performed afternoons at B101 during his tenure.
Specifically, refer to the books of the mid-90s well into the 2000s.
In fact, there were MANY times at which PM drive far-outperformed mornings.

If he was so un-talented, why is it that B101 went into a 6-book slide after his departure ?
Again I suggest that personal attacks be left for the bathroom wall,
rather than being couched as facts which they are not.

Your slams are nauseatingly transparent. If you don't like him..don't like him. But stop insisting he wasn't talented or successful. He was both..as was Big John also.

I usually bow out when a thread becomes an argument, but this "dood" is just throwing rotten tomatoes. As far as my original suggestion that Bruce would be a great hire for mornings at WCTK, I still stand by that. He has a different style than Tad Lemire & would be less humor oriented, but as far as relating to the audience & what goes on in their lives he would be right on target. Format excecution is a moot point since WCTK is as much fun to listen to as B101 used to be, but I'm just wishful thinking here. I do think WCTK's best bet is to go with a locally known voice & just the fact that Bruce & Big John would be on the same station again totally kicks ass too.

You may want to re-check YOUR facts..obviously, I know different people there than you do, and I can tell you for sure that they were planning to replace Bruce some years ago. Compared to the rest of the staff, he was like a square peg in a round hole. Dana Bruno and her old partners kicked Bruces butt several times, and so did Big Jon. Two former Pd's were planning to move him out of afternoons. I do agree, Bruce is a good talent for the Oldies format, and WAS successful in Providence, but let's not forget that the entire radio station was very successful. Often times, it was number one in the market, but not all of this was due to Bruce..what about the successes of the morning shows, with Paul and Dana, and later Dana and Tiffany? they were number one. Bruce never carried the radio station. The morning show was so strong that a mediocre talent could have gotten ratings in the afternoon. I'm not implying that Bruce is a mediocre talent, but simply stating that the morning show was bigger than anything else on that station, most of the time. Bruces numbers also went down when Imus went on the station and if he were stronger than the station, his numbers would have still been up there.
Now, go have a warm glass of milk and relax!!

You know, for someone who claims to have the inside scoop, you really seem to have a lack of knowledge (and poor spelling to boot). First of all, the man's name is spelled "Big John Bina", Not "Beena" or "Jon". And who's "Paul and Dana"? Are you referring to Paul and Daria? Jesus, man. This alone shoots any credibility anyone would give to an anonymous message board poster in the first place.

If Bruce was so terrible in the afternoons, why did management want to promote him to mornings? Bruce felt comfortable in the afternoon and decided to stay there. The man doesn't like to change things unless absolutely necessary.

Your gripe is clearly personal. Bruce is a hard working guy who went above and beyond while I worked with him at B101. He's hard-nosed and demands excellence, especially when it comes to the on-air product. He built up quite a core listenership through his show and the many car events through the summers he spent with the radio station. He gave a damn about the station. That can't be said for everyone who works in radio.

I agree with Runrigger. Bruce would be an excellent addition to WCTK's airstaff. With some effort (which I guarantee he will give) learning the music and the format, he could easily fit in to a country radio station. Hot 106, probably not. WCTK, you bet.

Couldn't agree with you more, Jeff.

As I said at the start..this guy clearly has a personal ax to grind and doesn't base his comments on any factual info. And again, "dood" (sp ?) charges that Bruce can't adapt to a current-based format, ignoring the fact that he's been bringing huge numbers in Worcester for current-AC WSRS. (Can't quote exact numbers, but well over a 20 share for target demo middays in the last couple books).

Actually, over the years I've scavanged alot of discarded area ratings books and have most of the ones published for Providence in the late 80s, 90s and some post-2000. While I can't quote them for copyright reasons..it's safe to say that B101's morning show only out-paced Bruce for a couple books when he first began doing afternoons in the early 90s. From about fall 1992 on, Paul Perry & Bruce Palmer were neck-and-neck with morning-vs-afternoon ratings, and Bruce took a permanent (and commanding) lead over his own station's morning show from the time Daria Bruno took over in '98 (when Perry left for Boston), through B101's Imus-in-the-morning disaster and right through the current B101 morning show, which he crushed in '01, '02 and '03.

But let's get back to the genesis of this thread. Bruce Palmer is a legitimate candidate for CTK mornings, as would be Big John Bina. Who else ?
