KPLZ owns Women In Seattle???

KPLZ is the "pulse" of women in Seattle? As this board has said
their PD is way to busy with a TV career to have the "pulse" of
anything in radio. Do you really think their aging PD knows the
who "The Fray" are? The only reason the station is adding 80's
is cause they are living on memories. Maybe that is what 25-54
year old women like, but I doubt it. Wasn't their an 80's station
in Seattle that died. Didn't Sandusky try to make KLSY an 80's
leaning station and failed. KPLZ may be "top three" in 25-54
year old women 22 out of 25 books. The question is will they be
top three in 2006? I wouldn't put my money on a TV host who
moonlights as a PD. New Music, mixed with 80's ain't gonna get
it done.

Re: KPLZ owns Women In Seattle???

I have not been in Seattle that long, but being top three
in a core female demographic that long does deserve some credit.
Maybe it is the music director or someone else that is propping
the station up. The morning show does sound old, but there are
many aging morning shows that do well with older women. Maybe
the 80's mixed with currents is a better fit for their audience.
I agree that their older PD probably isn't really in touch with the
music of today, but could probably pick some good 80's even if he
does do radio only part-time.

Re: KPLZ owns Women In Seattle???

Whomever is calling the shots, KPLZ remains a consistent
performer in women 25-54 year after year. KRWM is another
good example. Last book they fell out of the top three in
women 25-54 beaten by KMPS, KPLZ, KCMS. Folks that is one
book. This Fall, thanks to Christmas music, they will be
back. KZOK performs the same way with men. KMPS has been
that way with adults. KUBE with younger demos.

From an advertiser point of view so many stations have changed
over the last couple of years, there is something to be said
for those that stay with their formats and make little changes
to stay on top. Maybe the PD is part-time, and is hogging
the headlines in the paper while others make the decisions.
At the end of the day it is long-term solid performance that sells
advertisers.

Sometimes, I think KPLZ has to check it's own pulse because it has gotten so mellow....

By the way....the PD who moonlights in TV happens to host a television program that is HUGE with 25-54 year old females. I suggest he might have a much better understanding of that demo than you might think.

That's 25-54 year old housewives though. I am curious how big that number actually is.

I was unaware there was a specific "housewives" demo. Are you sure no unmarried real estate salespeople might be watching?
:)
