P&K BDH Theory

I was a fan of P&K until about a year ago. Then I started to notice that everytime I turned on the show they were either talking to or about BDH. To me it seemed like there show became a 3 hour commercial for his. BDH is a ****** and I cant stand his show. Seriously I would rather listen to Monda (who is the worst in the city) than BDH.

Back to my point was it just me or did anyone else notice that P&K seemed to promote the shit out of BDH? Get him some publicity and then put him in there spot.

Then again maybe ther contract is up and they want to much money. Ron and Don had some awesome ratings but they well you know about that crap.....either way I liked there show but it got old with all the BDH talk.

Nah I never noticed that. He was just on the show a lot to fill in for Pugs or Kelly being off. Which seemed to me to be an crazy amount of time for people that worked from 11-3.

Before BDH there was Emil Cerullo, an even more annoying personality who seemed to be the eternal bad guest. I don't know if it was P&K's choice or if it was forced upon them by management, but it seemed as if they had no confidence in their own abilities and relied on outside personalities to carry the show. To me, they were best when it was P&K and Sybil discussing the days events and fielding listener calls. The show weakened with Sybil's departure and the addition of Eric with his "Jackass" style of entertainment. And finally Justin "Bananas" Foster was latest inexplicable addition to the show. What exactly was he supposed to bring to the show?

I agre with the statement above. The show lost alot of character when sybil left. Eric is just worthless and annoying. Sybil added something special to the show. It was hurting without her in my opinion. The best times were when p k and sybil were just chatting away.

The world may never know. Now he's turning up on the Jagger show. Justin "Bananas" Foster is the Ted McGinley of Dallas radio.

All this goes to show Gavin has no idea what he is doing.

I forgot about Emil, but he was indeed radio anthrax. When they had him on I could not listen. I stopped listening before the Bananas Foster era, but sounds more of the dumb same.

I will say Sybil was a great part of their mix. She fit in well because she was usually actually working and rarely looking to be a mic whore, so you only heard from her once in a while.

Since it was a two person show, that is all you needed. Not 25 different voices every hour.

P&K were at their best for me when they first went on the air overnights and were allowed to be their stupid insecure selves and weren't forced to over-producing every freaking segment.

I remember some really interesting shows where they spent 90 minutes on a single news story and they did a good job with it.

Besides Gavin's mettling with personal, forcing them to have stupid segments and limit their ability to do what they want, he also killed the show with the commercials. Virtually impossible to listen to KLLI due to the commercials. At least when I listen to the ticket I know they will be back in a few minutes and have a general schedule going on so I know more radio is never far away. With KLLI you could tune in to a commercial break and listen to 20+ more minutes of commercials. It got so bad as to become completely unlistenable.

I liked it when P&K first moved down to dallas and most of the show was about all the crazy people at there hotel. Sybils laugh was intoxicating. I am glad I am not the only one who was tired of the 20 minute commercial breaks.

What does "he is a ******" mean?

Is that the catch-all for the inarticulate Gen-x'er?

Oh, maybe you're Corby?

The whole Justin Foster, or whatever his name is was just a mess. What the F was he "bringing" to the show.

Nothing.

I'm not a big P&K fan by ANY means, but if you have been listening it seemed to me they were not doing the show they wanted to do. Listen between the lines to everything, and you can pick up on a lot.

A little while before they went off P said several things at random times that led be to belive there was going to be a change comming soon, so I wasn't suprised when something happened.

I, as other have said, Sybil was a "good" part of that show, and it suffered after her leaving.

As far as BDH. Really? He has a show?

I do think he would be OK if he was playing second fiddle to someone who could be interesting and not take 3 hours and 7 minutes to get to the question he wants to ask.

Speaking of Sybil, why did she leave? Did P&K ever address that? If so, I missed it and have wondered ever since. I've figured out that she's at the racetrack now, but that seems so far from what she wanted to do for a living that it surprises me.

I don't buy the BDH theory, but I'd like to know more about the "argument with Russ" theory. I have no doubt who Gavin would have backed on that one (How's that workin' out Gavin? :p). At least they won't have to interview any more race car drivers or MMA fighters, I could almost the hear radios across the metroplex changing stations.

I'm pretty sure Sybil went on to better opportunities with the racing shows and her promotions business.

I think (don’t hold me to this) but months ago during one of the RM shows – they were talking about god knows what and Russ said something to the effect of “yea but what are you going to do with a monkee” (I am pretty sure I am WAY off and whatever Russ said and have no idea how it even got there) but almost instantly after Russ made the monkee comment JD quipped “give em a mid day show”…. Which was actually pretty funny IMHO.

I think later on Pugs lefts a insult laden VM for VD – they of course played it on the air and eventually Pugs came into the studio to “confront” JD and it played out just like you would expect – a bit! It was funny – that’s for sure – but I never got the impression “oohhhh there is trouble at the station now” just a funny bit that cross promoted both shows and gave material for both.

I didn't hear that bit, but I don't listen to Russ much. I'm surprised Pugs went along with that tired obscenity laced voice mail bit, THAT'S some fresh radio ::). What, they couldn't hide a car alarm under his console or toss some fireworks at him? My guess is Gavin must have made Pugs do it, I get the impression nobody at the station really likes Russ (other than his human laugh track).

Why is that guy still on the air? Oh yeah, he isn't.

I always got the vibe that the RM Show and the Jagger show for the most part got along and P&K were the filler between the big names. The Radio Tofu, if you will. And they seemed to know it and it caused a hint of tension.

Seems to me - at that station - the mid day is the stepchild - with Jagger and Russ being pretty well known and established in Dallas radio as it were. I think they sensed that as well and it played out in some of their bits.

Also though - while I've never worked there - I have been in the studios a few times for other reasons and you could totally see how there would be a russ vs. them attitude. He has (in my non radio experience) a very nice and big studio loaded up with tvs and all sorts of stuff and I always got the impression that was his studio and his only...

Now cut to Jagger where he does his show with the other 3... the studio is about the size of my closet! It all seemed very worn down or wore out. I assume P&K did their show from there as well.

All of that can been seen in pictures of the respective shows.

With no inside knowledge either, I got that same impression. Maybe after 7 years on the air Pugs and Kelly got tired of doing their show from a shared run down closet of a studio, it sounds like they had to share a crappy office too. Eric used to joke about getting sick from working in that building. Russ got all the perks and had the station director as their little play toy. They banked their entire station on Russ and it blew up in their face (cue JD and the fireworks bit)

It all comes back to management (Gavin and David Kelly), if you don't take care of your people they're going to find someone who will.
