PAC 98-7...Any Thoughts?

With oldies dying in the US, it's possible to flip Ogdensburg oldies station PAC 98-7 to more of an alternative rock sound for Ottawa. They should tweak 106.9 The Bear to more of an active rock station from its AAA-leaning mainstream rock identity, like the U.S. active rock stations. Active rock means hard rock mixed with very heavy metal, and the retro rock is just metal (including Aerosmith). Or maybe 106.9 The Bear could tweak to more of an alternative/active hybrid, like CFOX in Vancouver & FM96 in London, ON.

98.7 doesn't get into Ottawa, like, at all.

...becuas the last thing they want to do is young-down their demos.

The Oldies format isnt dead! Just because the big corporations dont have any faith in it and dont employ sales people talented enough to sell it, doesnt mean it doesnt have an audience. In fact, most oldies stations in the top 10 markets avg. about a 3 share. Not bad...

As for Pac 98.7...The signal doesn't touch into Ottawa at all. I realize it's a Martz property and they are programming (and selling) it as a Canadian station. That's smart seeing as how it's virtually impossible to program an FM oldies station IN Canada due to CanCon.

What Martz stations DO get into Ottawa? Besides the Fox?

How well does Wild cat Country 96.5 pick up in Ottawa? I was able to pick it up in Castleman, but, If I recall correctly, not at all in Ottawa.

Sister station, 101.5 the Fox doesn't even target Ottawa anymore...does it?

96.5 gets into the far-east end a bit. And as YKR stated below, the Fox doesn't even reference Ottawa any more.

Just wait until Newcap (or god forbid the Evanov's) get the alt-rock licence for Ottawa. I highly doubt Martz could make a dent with alt-rock in Ottawa. Just look at the Fox.

I believe the Fox's more current focus is now Cornwall.
This makes sense because it's closer. Their attack on CHEZ in Ottawa, at least to my ears, was as silly as if a Buffalo station were to attack a station in Toronto, only worse, because at least the Buffalo stations can pick up better in Toronto, than Fox could in Ottawa.

And the Buffalo stations would at least be big enough to stand a chance. The Fox is just a two-bit operation without a chance of ever denting CHEZ.

It was silly, but kind of fun to listen to.

With 25 percent Standard backing, if 92.9(WBUF Buffalo) really is for sale, Martz could buy it, and attack a Toronto station...no rumour intended...just a thought. <P ID="signature">______________
