Pacers move to 93.1

Hah. You knew the "strict" separation of sports and news couldn't last forever on Monument Circle, but the PACERS?

Can't we just move them to Vancouver already?

Who wants to hear basketball in stereo? Seems like with two signals one AM and the other FM they would leave sports on AM and keep the news on FM. Maybe they plan on having the Pacers on the left channel and News on the right channel... on FM then you listen to what you want by using the balance control...News...sports...or both at the same time. Who needs HD channels.

Mark this date as the beginning of the end of WIBC's quest to be #1. I am very disappointed in the management of WIBC.

I used to listen to bball in stereo. I think its great to hear the crown roar in stereo. Just like being there. But only if its good sound quality, not those old phone line links.

Considering the quality of the audio on the Colt's games (compared to WFBQ), I would not get your hopes up on B-Ball in stereo. BTW, is 93.1 still in stereo?

No.

Pacer games were probably hard to sell with the 1070 night signal having some serious problems in the metro. Then again Pacer games would be a tough sell anywhere these days. Whatever hard core Pacer fans that still exist in Hamilton county are probably watching the games on cable tv.

Regarding the difficulty in selling sponsorship for the Pacers - what about the Indianapolis Indians??? Aren't they on 950 - with NO signal at night other than a two-mile area around 56th and Georgetown?

Pacers are at least in the NBA, and there will always be an audience, which justifies community dollars.

Did Emmis pick up Butler basketball from WXNT which forced to move the Pacers to 93.1? I know they have the Hoosiers on 97.1. Remember when Shirk first began with 96.3 he had IU, Purdue and Butler basketball?

Butler fans are diehard. There is a guaranteed audience that is probably larger than anything ESPN syndication could bring to the boys at 1070. Add in the few dollars coming in for on-air sponsorship and its a win-win for them. WXNT just didn't promote it very well, and with more talk about BU on the leading sports stations in town, plus more up talk about the games on the other Emmis stations, BU basketball looks to have a future on Indy radio! Now if only I could get on board with BU basketball radio network (they do have a few other Indiana outlets).

Go Dawgs!

BTW, even football is getting into the act. BU's homecoming will be televised on My23.
