Since we've already run off the rails, I'm going to say this and never speak of it again. Bruce,
Sorry for the dummy echo post ---
I am actually really glad to make your acquaintance! When I speak of KEYH slop - I mean ONLY the high frequency crosstalk on 860 that comes from 850. It is unintelligible as to what music or talk it is, because it is translated down in frequency by 10 kHz. As far as Mexican radio is concerned, I do listen to some of the music on 620 and 780, I find it really different and good. Of course I don't understand a word. I have a feeling the radio coming from Mexico is a lot different from what I hear on 850, which when I tune across is more of a mariachi band or something. Getting serenaded by that music in EPCOT's Mexico restaurant is cool. But it is not something that I would preferentially be entertained by.
As far as Hispanic heritage people go, my family has a long history of being sympathetic to and being friends with Hispanics. A great uncle named his son after Eldridge Tukey, a friend of the family who lived in Long Cove Maine. This was in the 1800's, long before it was politically correct to be all sympathetic to Hispanics. One of my very best friends (among my daughter's generation) is the daughter of an illegal, who is also one of the finest men I know. He has a good job, and pays taxes, and I enjoy every time we visit the family. I will "out" myself -I know enough Spanish to get by, but don't consider it to be a primary skill. It is certainly enough to know when I am being talked about in Spanish, which unfortunately happens once in a while. I suspect Spanish is a way to anonymize conversations. Of course when I say I don't speak foreign, that means Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian, Japanese, Chinese - so it really isn't focused on Spanish language radio.
As far as my posts on Christian radio, I am on record as praising KSBJ for putting NGEN on the air, and being an ardent fan of the format. I am not confrontational, but I defend people I believe in. And what happened to Buddy Holiday was NOT CHRISTLIKE. Not even close. NGEN is what KSBJ should have been all along, because NGEN is closer to Buddy Holiday's vision as he explained it to me many years ago. I am hoping none of the people that behaved so shamefully to Buddy Holiday are still around at KSBJ - how could God bless an organization that acted like that?
I do appreciate prayers - even if they are concerned about me. I can assure you my walk with the Lord has gotten a lot closer over the recent years, due to a change of church to one focusing not on sin and death and depression - but one that concentrates on how to move forward in Christ, what the benefits of being a Christian are, what heritage and promises we have in Christ, and how to exercise Godly authority and reach out to the fulfilled life the Christ promises to, and blesses his followers with. too long I was stalled spiritually in churches that preach over and over again "you need to get saved" - now I am in churches that tell me what to do now that I am saved. I have graduated from the negative to the positive - to a life prior to salvation to one after being saved, and moving on in the faith.
The rbrucecarter is Robert Bruce Carter. I am a proud believer for 40 years, now going to Lakewood, growing spiritually there, and loving it. I programmed a Christian rock show on WAPN Holly Hill Daytona Beach Florida. As I mentioned, I was a big supporter of KSBJ when Buddy Holiday started it out. I have supported Christian radio - big time - through the years financially, and have been betrayed by the stations I support twice. Now I am not involved in radio any more, except as a fan and observer. And I fully recognize I have the interpersonal skills of the current incarnation of Sherlock Holmes. I can be blunt in declaring my opinions, but it is not out of malice or a need to bait anybody. I see a problem in terms of black and white, and once convinced of a position, I will repeat that position as though it is fact. I hope this clears up misconceptions. We all love radio. I have no malice. When somebody says something negative about me on a public forum, I do feel like I am being bullied a bit, as things posted tend to have an indefinite life on line. I refrain from attacking individuals, because I am mindful about how I would feel were than posted about me. Being bullied online is a helpless feeling, and many a weaker person has snapped as a result of it. Bulling online has no place in cyberspace and is to be avoided at all costs. Just my feeling on the topic. I would never say a disrespectful thing online even to people with whom I have considerable differences of opinion.
