I don't think they sound good at all. All the clocks seem the same and it seems to me that they hold back their talent from growing. They only backsell songs, which sounds ridiculous. And yes, they have a top 40 in Electric 96.9.

Could you give an example of how a station would prevent a talent from growing? I personally always felt the direction my career took was up to me, and the last time I heard there were no non-competes in Paducah. I don't get how the station has so much control.

WDDJ is too scripted.. the jocks are "jocks" no real talent or personality there

So the station requires them to suppress their creativity and personality? Then why do they stay there? If they're that entertaining it seems like other stations would snatch them up. I know I'm a greybeard, but back in the day Bristol jocks used to jump from Paducah to markets like Louisville, Nashville, etc all the time. WKYQ has produced 3--that's THREE--winners of the CMA DJ of the Year. And they all managed to do it with a stack of typed 5X7 liner cards that had to be read once per hour.

Sorry, I ain't buying that Bristol Broadcasting stifles good air talent.

Didn't Chris Chandler, the newsman, come from Paducah, to WHAS, and then moved on to CNN Radio?

I've only been in the area for a couple of years and it just sounds dull to me. Froggy seems to be exciting with their imaging and such. You may very well have a point, what years were those CMA wins? (I honestly don't know.) The frog doesn't sound corny I don't think, but I have noticed that it owns calloway, hickman, and fulton counties and southward into TN. Then graves and marshall are battle grounds. And WKYQ owns mccracken, carlisle, and ballard and northward into IL.

You're telling me the "Singing Frog" jingles that feature a very lame Kermit the Frog impression are "exciting"? How does "10 in a row country" get a listener excited? While we're at it, Froggy runs a line in all of their contest promos proclaiming it to be "the station where listeners actually win". Are you implying that WKYQ screws listeners out of prizes? What's your proof?

no, those frog songs are annoying for sure. I'm talking more about the sweepers, liners and such. "10 in a row" not original, but neither is a "no talk triple play". I've heard froggy say that winners thing, and now that I think of it, I'm always hearing winners on their station. I can't think of the last time I heard a winner call played back on WKYQ. I never said WKYQ screwed listeners out of prizes. You seem to be taking it very defensive, I'm not attacking you or anyone.

Sorry about that, porkchop. I didn't mean to come across that way. My wife and mother have won prizes on WKYQ. I found out because I heard them on the air. When I hear WKYQ give away a prize, I always seem to hear the winner on the air. I think I can count once when I only heard the jock announce the winner's name without putting them on the air. You're right, you never said that WKYQ was screwing listeners out of prizes. When I listen to Froggy, I sometimes hear the aforementioned contest promo and it just comes across that way.

No harm, no foul...

word. *virtual 5* I do listen mostly to Froggy, but I check out the Q (both Clarksville and Paducah) and everything else. I'm guessing the frog just means they give away the most shi...stuff. I swear the afternoon drive guy had like 47 bajillion games/giveaways yesterday. Perhaps I'm just not tuning in at the right times for WKYQ.

I believe they encourage you to "Just read the liner cards" at Bristol. It seems to be working for this area though...they are everywhere.

Really, Bristol is the only game in town (Withers is a disgrace).

Again going to "back in the day", we were encouraged to take what was on the cards and "make it our own" and as long as we stayed focused, didn't ramble, and kept the music going we were free to be ourselves. If that's no longer the case, it's too bad. Years later I can still express just about any thought or feeling i have in less than 15 seconds. ;D
