Paging Indianapolis

After a lengthy flirtation with (and great visit to) WQAM/Miami, I've landed at WFBQ/WNDE in Indy as the producer of Colts football coverage. Among other things I'll also be doing some air shifts at Q95, where I'm reunited with PD Buzz Casey (96 Rock/Atlanta) and Laura Steele (WEBN/Cincinnati.) I have a key to the building so it must be official. After covering the Bengals and Falcons, it's great to be with a winning team. Just wanted to let my friend (Skipper T.) know.

Congrats..I think?? Doesn't WFNI/WLHK have the Colts games?? I know the answer, just puzzled as to your job.

Hoosierky, yes they do, but we still do a pre-game show every week as well as a Friday night show before home games.

No Miami, huh? Shut up! I guess that Kirk Gibson homer wasn't the only thing I called.

So...

All that griping Tom did a few years ago about how WIBC couldn't have "the best Colts coverage" as Wilson claimed in the TV ads because WIBC didn't have the actual game..

Is he now mysteriously quiet about it with the shoe on the other foot?

The funniest part is Tom has been heard on several occasions making the same comments about wfbq's attempt at colts coverage. Especially when it came to their former PD, Jameson-something I believe, Tom was obviously no big fan of any of the colts coverage. Of course, maybe q95 wasn't far off in their attempts to get colts fans over to their frequency, the colts own pregame show is horrendous, and the game play by play with big bob lamey and that generic former player of the day is beyond embarrassing. It's pitiful they can't get some decent talent in there for a NFL game broadcast, or even some just average talent, anything is an improvement over what they have now. Maybe q95s people could do the colts broadacsts, and still run the game on The Fan and The Hank.

It's an independent pre and post game show, beyond the control of the team owners. This is very WLW Cincinnati circa late 80's.

700 WLW lost the Bengals due to scheduling conflicts with Reds coverage. The 1981 strike forced the issue when the baseball season overlapped the NFL season. The broadcast agreement with the Reds gave them priority over the Bengals Randy Michaels and the rest of Taft took advantage and lured coverage over to 55KRC. When Randy jumped to WLW he set the motion to outdo what he did at KRC. The Bengals were a piece of that puzzle.

In the late 80's, WLW started their Bengals' coverage originating from a Bar on a Sunday Morning. They promoted the game on WLW-T Channel 5 and to join them after the game for the post game coverage. Their coverage was beyond the control of the Brown family who had reigns on 55KRC's coverage.

Research indicated the majority of those sampled associated the Bengals with WLW instead of 55KRC who had the play by play.

The Colts control all aspects ( I believe) of the broadcasts. They controlled "Dog and Zupe"
Zupe is a VP in the Colts organization). Zupe was too much of a cheerleader, but give Dog his props. His questions were more pointed at the Colts than with the Colts.

The Colts buy the airtime from the station. All the station does is uplink it to the bird and play the spots.
