Panama City FL changes in effect tomorrow

Tomorrow, May 21st, will see Panama City FL's NBC station, WJHG, move its physical transmissions from channel 7 to channel 18 while retaining 7 as its display channel. Its subcarriers, CW (7.2) and retransmission of WECP/CBS (7.3), will follow appropriate suit. WECP, which currently transmits OTA on channel 18, will move to channel 29 along with its subcarriers My Network TV (to 29.2) and local weather (to 29.3). Both stations are owned by Gray Communications and originate from the same studio building.

The change took effect yesterday with a few glitches. WECP still brands itself as channel 18 even though it broadcasts and maps on 29. Entering 18 OTA on a remote would automatically redirect to WJHG's 7.

per the filing back in 2011

We believe the public interest will be served by substituting channel 18 for channel 7 at
Panama City. Gray states that “This channel substitution serves the public interest by resolving significant
over-the-air reception problems in certain areas of WJHG’s predicted service area . . ..”

After two power increases and numerous attempts to resolve viewers’ reception complaints, Gray concludes that the best
solution is to move to a UHF channel.

In addition, the proposed facility will increase the net total
population served by the station.
