Panama City Numbers

Yea - kill the jammer and he will have a regular listener in here and in the car. The signal craps out in FWB. then gets strong on the ISLAND.

I typically listen to this and music.

been hunting since Thursday.....12+ numbers/rank don't really tell the story of the book....I hate to admit that WILN had a very good book in the demos that count.

That is telling, CCENG. Looks like the poster on here a while back that was bragging about Island being better was right(which I forgot to consider in my ratings guess fiasco). Add that to the fact that PFM is a waste, and it makes sense.

How did the Island morning show do in the 25-54?

I'm making the call. How dare WILN have numbers like PFM used to have.

Was that me? If so, not an issue of bragging... just objective armchair quarterbacking.

#1, both women and persons. Same for 18-34.

Island owns mornings in PC, plain and simple. Magic has invested in talent and it's paying huge dividends. Nice to see some companies still employing that strategy.

Oh, Tibbs, you're showing your age. Island has ruled the CHR roost for damn near 20 years. I was the GM there in '96-97 and enjoyed selling a #1 sweep in every demo & daypart in women/adults 18-34/18-49/25-54. Great talent at the time & Steve Kingston calling the programming & promotion shots from NYC. Otherwise... off-the-charts bizarre.

But they've been a good performer for a long, long time.

You and Music Man are making schedule a vacation to the Gulfed. RNR, I "kinda" remember the station you are ref-fer-ing too. I know it's kicked for many years. Back in the pre-aborted-radio years...there was only one REAL station playing Top 40... and it is a sad state of affairs that Magic Two is willing to invest in product and talent and do well, when another company speads the few employees so thin, they're running pathetic jukeboxes on life support. Same happens all over. The old saying is still true...you gotta spend $$$, to make $$$. Double Dumb was a group of self-annointed experienced radio execs....what does that tell us???

Admittedly, I have not paid any attention to WILN over the years, although I "can" listen to it and PFM is not listenable to my well trained musical ears. That and the Beat are just not my style. I am that exception to be sucked into the Mtv is cool copycatting generation, thankfully. Poledo, am I just "not getting it?"

Also, I would venture to ask --- anyone know if WPAP, Sunny and Island outbill The Beat?

Rhythmic CHR isn't exactly my cup of tea--wrong gender, wrong demo (by a mile)--but I have (just barely) enough discipline to force myself to listen to the format. It's one of the hazards of continuing to work in this fine profession at an advanced age. Truth is, there's a lot of catchy stuff, and I understand why my two 18-34 Caucasian daughters listen a lot to stations like The Beat, as well as pop-CHR stations like Island.

I would guess that if you walked along The World's Most Beautiful Beaches next month you'd hear more Spring Break Lovelies listening to The Beat--and that helps sell a shitload of beer, bar & tanning lotion commercials.

And I would guess that with a couple years of solid ratings success, now, and with the top (CC) sales crew in PC pitching it, The Beat probably bills somewhere around Island--maybe a bit less--and well behind Sunny... and way behind WPAP. Keep in mind that a couple years ago, both The Beat and PFM took chunks out of WILN. The current radio-info.com summary shows them at #6 just two books ago.

Then again, small-market selling is a relationship game, anyway. Local/direct clients take ratings with a grain of salt ("Hey, everybody says they're #1"), so it's hard to really know what's going on at street level.

Maybe Charlie has some insight...
