Whew. Talk about your basic clearly-defined radio markets. Clear Channel gets the first $5 million, Magic gets all the second-tier buys, and OO picks up the scraps. Ain't rocket surgery.

I need to extend a long overdue apology to The Beat. All this time I've been referring to WPFM as the "other CHR"--in deference to Eye-Land--while the obvious reality is that WEBZ is the CHR monster on The World's Most Beautiful Beaches. (And let me take this opportunity to give a special nod to cceng for somehow cranking that Mexico Beach stick to a point where the SOB knocks off all the close-in signals and full Class C rigs). Point being that the Once-Great 108 is actually the Third CHR in market #239. Great strategy.

Yeah, there are waayyyy too many radio stations in Panama City, serving waaayyy too few ears. And steering one's properties through the maze to get a fair share of the money pie is no picnic. But you've gotta give a hand to the local folks at CC/PC. It's not falling to them by default. They're doing something right. A lot of things right, in truth.

FIRST: Stewy and RNR --- You two are pathetic KISS UPS>

SECOND: You pulled this one out by a razor thin margin Wooten. Look at the NEW 12+ math, not that Arbitron math:

Here's the facts:

CC: 37 pts

ODAO: 40.7 pts (#1)

GP: 3.1 (#2)

ODAO wins. I demand a re count. I know Al Gore.

Play with all your little legit. numbers, Wooten. So what, if you scored on a station by station basis. That's fuzzy numbers. ODAO (Other Dumb@$$ Operators) outscored you. Doesn't matter that they have about like 275 stations. Don't go there. GP (Good People - aka: Bay and Hourglass (?) ) . They try.

I won't even bring up Robs theory of that Wooten Ham Radio Thingy messin with all the other non-CC signals. And do you have a strobey on that tower? No. I checked Mapquest.

Seriously, you know I love ya! Great job!!! Stewy, RNR --- thanks for not getting too mad.

great post.....you almost had me for a second....oh, you won't hear from Rob for a while....I sent him the complete US 550 khz database on another thread....he will be reading it for the next 2 weeks

Tibbs, you were very close to a Madame Woo mathematical smackdown coupled with every crop of curses I learned during my years in radio - but then you showed your true, intelligent colors ;D

Tonight staff celebrated on the beach and I talked with the local CC GM - nice guy who believes in treating staff well. He values everyone, not just sales or morning talent. That brings back fond memories of the old days of radio :)
 
JW - Is this the new CC manager? I like what I am hearing. Would never wanna offend you. To get a chuckle out of that man of yours is a big compliment. Offending CCENG is part of the fun. But only on a limited basis. I hope you had plenty of beers. Well deserved.
 
Hey Tibbs, you're dang right I'm a suck-up to Master Broadcast Engineers. This sales weasel admits to bowing gladly to those who can make the mystic coax spew my ads forcefully! All Hail the Great and Powerful CCENG!
 
LOL--yes, Tibbs, that's been my relationship with Clear Channel from the start: I kiss up, and they just love me to death! (At this point in my illustrious career it's safe to say that I'll hang up the ol' jockstrap without ever drawing a paycheck from San Antonio). But they've made bundles with the three properties/markets I prepped for them!

But I do think it's easy to forget that the local folks in godforsaken hellholes like Panama City are the ones who bear the daily burden of making them puppies bark. The listeners don't know who the hell owns those stations--they only know whether they like what they hear... or not. And the advertisers don't care who owns the stations--it's the local programming & sales folks who make their ad dollars generate a return. Kudos are well-deserved!

On the other hand, one of the funnest (most fun?) times I've had in radio was kicking CC's ass out in Texas, and that's what a good operator could look forward to with the Magic or OO sticks. (Don't know if the GP properties realistically have the capability). The Clear Channel PC stations are truly the Moster's of The Miracle Strip, at least for now.

Knocking them off would be a lot of fun!
 
Stewy and RNR ~ you are both good people! I was just having a little fun and I think I actually pulled one over on CCENG, if even for a second. In all fairness, CC has been cranking the PC market for years, but this, even in the 12+ numbers was a surprise to me. WEBZ is #1. How long has PAP and FSY ruled? Country is just a tough format right now. While I know Magic has had it's
own set of issues, etc., I don't mean any harm or ill will. Double .. well. Nothing other than get something going. I have never seen a last place finish so complete. Wow. PC has to be a painful
place for you to play. And finally, Bay - I like the music on the station. It's a tough place to have a single property. Stick in there, though. You guys seem like you have a good thing going.

Mostly, and yeah, here's MY kissing up. Charlie Wooten has to be the most passionate, 24/7 real radio man in America. How many Engineers do you see that "get" the programming and celebrate
wins as if he created the formats along with the team? No that many. Talk a about a team player.
Way to go CC PCB!
 
I can't f***ing type. "Monsters of the Miracle Strip" was what I meant.

Oh, and yeah, Tibbs, we all know this back-and-forth is all in good fun. The CC folks deserve to party on the beach (Hey, did anyone remember to invite Steve Harvey? You owe him a few cold brewskies)! And I agree with your assessment of Double O's tail-end sweep. They've had 5 or 6 years now to figure out the market... and they can't get ONE stick into the Top 8? They're gonna have to keep their salespeople from jumping off Hooters' roof...
 
Well, RNR, if they are gonna jump, Hooters is probably not the worst place to end it all.

My question is, with all the economic issues, compounded by oil issues, in a small market
way over-radioed, with all the worst stations in a cluster at the bottom of the barrel...

..I gotta ask.... what salespeople? How could they survive?
 
Usually come out right along the PC #'s, Trock. I guess maybe you will see them added Tuesday on here? Just a guess. Unless they are embargoed...:)

Did you see the PC #'s? CC won despite bad engineering. :) (CCENG will kick my @$$ and it is deserved.)
 
FWB is now a Neilsen market I believe...I don't think you will see any Arbitron info this time.......

Watch it Tibbs....I am coming up to Huntsville next weekend for hamfest (ham radio convention) and it ain't that far up 65 to Nashville....I might have to ease up there and kick some a$$
