Papa Roach- Scars / sum 41- pieces /Killers

Ok why does some CHR's cut the screaming of "Go Fix Yourself" The song sounds better w/ it in it.

WZNR Norfolk (ZOne @ 1061) plays the verison w/ go fix yourself and ppl on CHR still like it.

I mean really is that one line gonna make ppl not like the song on CHR.

GIVE ME A BREAK !!!

And how come Sum 41-Pieces got no airplay, this song is much softer than Papa Roach or Crossfade, but no CHR's will touch it...expect Zone @ 1061 in Norfolk and maybe a few others

Same w. Seether- Remedy
Killers- Smile Like You Mean It and that is very similar to Coldplay's "Speed of SOund" and females dig the Killers, just go talk to some of them !

and i could prob find more examples.

WXSS in Milwaukee cuts out the "go fix yourself"
they also cut out the screaming "OF OUR DYING!" when they played Anthem Of Our Dying Day by Story Of The Year last year.

WKSC in Chicago doesn't cut the parts out.

Sum 41 - Pieces is all over WIFC Wausau, WI and WIXX Green Bay, WI

Whoa..."Smile Like You Mean It" sounds nothing like "Speed Of Sound". Although, I will say I prefer "Smile" to "All These Things...". Why on earth did the label choose to release "ATT" as the next Killers single for CHR/Pop??

The Killers has more of a new wave-y feel, the Coldplay has more of an epic U2 kind of feel. They do NOT sound alike. And, although the Killers are sucessful...they are no match for Coldplay. Coldplay annoys me, but their fanbase it 10x as big.

As far as the Papa Roach edit goes...most CHR programmers are sheep and afraid to offend. Therefore, they chose the "fix"-less edit. Wouldn't want to confuse anybody into thinking they heard another certain "F" word, would we?

Goodness, no! The Children might be listening! We musnt expose the Children to such salty language! They might grow up and rape zoo animals if they hear the F word!!

Please...

Scars - I don't know.

Pieces - Good point! Why didn't it get airplay?

Crossfade - Actually, they're jsut now getting to that.

Seether - Too hard.

Killers - That was only released as an Alternative single. The Pop single is "All These Things I've Done"

Coldplay - What do you mean? CHRs are playing that!

Fix? Editing fix?! Huh, are our ears this damaged? Even "phunk" wasn't even that close to the f word, so far away I've even heard some CHRs play the phunk version.

God, give us some flexibily. Mine as well edit "take off your clothes" and bam (for being to close to the d word) while were at it.

in Twista's "Slow Jamz", MTV cut out "Take your pants off"

Supposedly the scream doesn't go over well with the secretaries listening in middays. I think it should stay though. Anyone who's heard the song on Alternative is going to notice it's missing, and the rest of the song is hard enough that anyone who dislikes screaming is already going to be tuned out.

If you're going to edit out the scream, you might as well play the acoustic version that's getting play now.

In fact, it's similar to Simple Plan's "Untitled", which has gotten huge CHR airplay. I'll blame this on lousy promotion and the fact that "Pieces" takes forever to grow on you. It doesn't have that "instant" hit quality.

It's longevity on the CHRs that gave it a chance should say something. It seemed to hang around on Zone 106 and especially WIXX, forever. I think this will go down as one of those songs that radio just missed out on. Should be interesting to see if it sticks around as a recurrent on any of these stations.

> Killers- Smile Like You Mean It and that is very similar to
> Coldplay's "Speed of SOund" and females dig the Killers,

Never promoted. It probably would have done better than "All These Things That I've Done", but the Killers don't want a reputation as a Pop band so they didn't release it to CHR.

We were one of the first CHRs to play the Pap Roach song, and when I heard it, I thought the 'screams' should be edited. At the time, there wasn't a pop edit of the song. I'm sure some people just download the "pop edit" or dub in the version they get on CD. In the end, does it really matter?

We ARE playing the 'screams' version however.

Also, you can't really compare any 2 songs to each other. There are so many factors in how much a song gets played.
______________

I dissagree on this one. I don't think it is any harder than "Scars"

AT40, too...listen to "Candy Shop" or "Just a Lil Bit"...you're lucky to get the chorus.

And, for the record, while most view any over-editing as being spineless, I'll mention this: As as programmer, your first and most important job is to protect the license. You could have the best programming in the world, but if you have no radio station to put it on, it won't matter.

It's all about the lowest common denominator of listener, and the reality is, none of them care. They know it has to be edited for radio.

The only people who care are those that have seemingly little better to do. Some edits may be silly, but trust me when I say that listeners DO NOT CARE.

Just my $0.02.

You've been reading too much Guy Zapoleon.

The label edits of 50, Twista etc... are sufficient.
None of the lyrics are graphic in nature, therefore can't be deemed indecent or fine-worthy.

It's one thing to protect the license, but being afraid of your own shadow is another issue entirely.

All 50 talks about is sex. He might not say the "words", but the innuendo is getting ridiculous.
______________

MTV does go above and beyond. It really is racist though when you think about it. There is just as much innuendo in Maroon 5's "This Love."

"Keep her coming every night." - they mean cumming - and very few stations edit it.

"Sinking my fingertips into every inch of you" - gee i wonder... do u edit that?

For the record, no one's ever accused me of over-editing, so I don't really fall into that category, but I understand why some programmers do. I've also never been accused of reading before. I'm flattered that you think I can.

Again I bring up lowest common denominator. MTV and AT40 are on in many markets, some of which are very conservative. I don't blame them for using the most conservative markets as the litmus test for edits. I don't necessarily agree with it, myself, but I understand why they do it.

In other cases, that's the joy of local programming. Each PD gets to choose what they feel is the best for his or her audience. I get that you don't agree with that, but I, for one, appreciate having the choice.
