Paramount Global Merger Complete

The merger of Paramount Global and SkyDance media has closed:

From the press release:

"In the near-term, Paramount will leverage strategic investments to capitalize on identified synergies and opportunities to streamline its business, with a focus on forward-thinking approaches to content creation and storytelling, as well as providing value and stability for shareholders."

Selling off CBS and the owned-stations, and dumping their cable channel portfolio would be the easiest and least complicated way to reach that goal, ya think?

That reads exactly like it was written by Larry* himself during a late-night dump. (Which reminds me of another full-of-himself fellah who's equally prolific while battling his constipation. Though Larry actually has a mastery of English.)

* (Ellison, in case I was ambiguous)

Three simple words that differ these folks from the Redstones: No Emotional Attachment.
The Redstones didn’t have a clue what they were doing. Sheri was just riding her father’s coattails.
Both can be true at the same time. Shari Redstone didn't want to break up Paramount Global, which made the sale to Skydance much more difficult. She's lucky Larry Ellison even made an offer for the whole thing.

In defense of Skydance, the executives they've lined up have deep experience in their repective areas and are respected within the industry. Of course they now have to execute, which Paramount has struggled to do for years.

The incomparable James B. Stewart of the New York Times today has an extensive behind-the-scenes profile of the Skydance acquisition, focusing in particular on the role of Shari Redstone. Much of the material was embargoed for publication until the merger was completed.

The media mogul spoke at length for the first time about selling her family’s empire, Paramount’s settlement with President Trump — and getting her reputation battered along the way.

Here is more at Paramount as they change the EP's for the CBS Evening News.
Link from a more reliable source:

Kim is the first female EVP in the newscast's history and has been with the network and Evening News since 2017. And yet I wonder why Skydance is bothering when they are going to make draconian cuts all across CBS.

Keep in mind the promotion didn't come from SkyDance. And regardless of whether or not they make cuts, the show needs an EP.

My question is what changes will she make in the show.
That's the problem. It doesn't matter what changes they make, it always seems to result in ratings losses, and that's been the case since Dan Rather was paired up with Connie Chung. Every anchor since Rather (especially Katie Couric, remember when she tried to have Rush Limbaugh as a guest commentator on her first week as anchor?) has had substantial changes to the format that just didn't work. The format was most recently overhauled under DuBois and Dickerson to distinguish it completely from NBC Nightly News and World News Tonight overdosing on "BREAKING NEWS" and even that backfired. What good would it do to make it look like a cheap copy of WNT or NN once again?

It's to the point where they are better off just cancelling the CBS Evening News and giving the time back to the affiliates.

Ask the affiliates. They do, and the affiliates are the reason they do that show when they do it.
Given the persistent ratings and reputational issues the Evening News has, there probably is a non-insignificant portion of the affiliate base that wants to dump it. Particularly in rural markets.

And if Nexstar or Gray wants to cancel it groupwide in favor of an in-house national newscast of their own, what can CBS do to stop them? The network-affilate model is poised to be obliterated once Nexstar takes over Tegna.

Was thinking about lot more would happen after completion. It seems like its operating just as it did pre-merger, except the ultimate fighting acquisition.
