Paramount Skydance wants WBD

I bet this goes beyond just the NBA.

That's what Stephen A Smith said today:

“Don’t be surprised that the WNBA is next on his list,” he warned. “Anybody that has seen his reactions from the sports leagues and the positions that people have taken — they are not surprised at what’s going on.” Smith added that he’s spoken to people among the major sports leagues and they told him that this scandal is "just the tip of the iceberg."

There is a view among a small group of conservatives that all organized sports, college as well as pro, is godless hedonism and should be shut down.

It's the 21st century's version of prohibition.

whoever gets WB, with production moving out of CA and AI, what happens to the lot in Burbank and the home of Yakko, Whacko, and Dot?

Burbank should be fine in the near-term. You may have missed this:

Amazon has MGM. Would they want WB.

They want to own content. WBD owns tons of content including the old MGM material that Ted Turner bought before Turner merged with Warner.

So yes, they want to complete the archive. One can argue the old stuff is the most valuable, and WBD owns it.

Putting the TV stuff behind their own paywall (as opposed to a cable paywall) also has its advantages.

That’s true, the cartoon vault alone is worth a fortune. Imagine Amazon brining classic Bugs Bunny back.

They already have. It's on Prime Video. But they don't own it. They license it.

Daily Kos has published an editorial on the proposed merger and it doesn't look pretty.

For the record, I have no idea if CBS is, in fact, pursuing Fox's Brett Baer to replace John Dickerson. That said, this is a very strong editorial.

Variety with a big piece on what Ellison wants (published Tuesday, but just got on my radar this morning).

Acquiring Warner Bros. has been on his list from the jump. It's all about the movie studios (and streaming). He knows that owning Paramount alone doesn't measure up against Disney, Warners and Universal.

Essential pull-quote:

“We’re going after Warners,” Ellison told confidants even before the Paramount deal got the Trump administration’s approval. “I want to be in the top three, not the bottom three.”

Or more importantly: Apple, Amazon, and Netflix. They're the big three. And none of them are stuck with obsolete cable channels.
I believe Roku is the biggest streaming provider.

Those "obsolete" cable channels are generating enough positive cash for them to be leveraged. Have you have ran a business? I have, positive cash flow is important. I have ran "obsolete businesses" in the past. Not glamorous but positive cash flow repaid my investment and provided a salary too.

For my wife, Hallmark is must see TV.

I am surprised that Apple was trying to screw the writers by offering some kind of per view deal. Content creation is expensive. You can make big bucks or lose big bucks.
