Paris Massacre: Thumbs up to KIRO TV

Just wanted to give a quick thumbs up to KIRO TV for dumping their usual syndicated crap and carrying CBS' live coverage of the Paris massacre.

As for KOMO and KCPQ, you guys just HAD to get those episodes of Steve Harvey and Judge Judy in, didn't you? 120 people dead in Paris and you had to show "garbage TV" to make your syndicators happy. Good job, both of you.

Well put, but it really isn't the syndicators that they need to be happy, but their local advertisers. Syndicators do have power, but only to the extent of they can be dropped quite easily for whatever reason usually with little or any penalty, and breaking news usually does not constitute ANY penalty. Local Advertisers, on the other hand, are hard to find and hard to keep. Of course, this all plays into business...and agreed what a poor time to be discussing this, however relevant this discussion is when lives are compared to ad revenue. I am saddened we are even talking about it, but I guess I have now become part of the problem. Perhaps the siliver lining here is most advertisers would understand if there were dropped spots, and could be made-good.

You're confusing KIRO with KCPQ. KIRO has Judge Judy. KCPQ has Maury at 3PM.
Remember, when 9/11 happened, ad revenue was the LAST of what ANYONE was thinking at ANY big 4 station throughout America. There was 3 dozen or more cable networks also closing up shop and airing live news coverage or a "we have suspended broadcasts" slide.
Paris is a time where the big 4 affiliates should have aired live coverage. Who gives a crap about which daddy is the father on Maury?! Terrorists killed 120 people!
