Part 15 Broadcasters' Conference

I'm currently investigating the possibility of holding a Part 15 broadcasters' conference in the not too distant future. Currently there's a poll taking place on my site's forum community.

The conference would be other to all Part 15 stations including on-campus carrier-current and leaky coax stations operated by educational institutions and hobbyists. The conference would also be open to those interested in finding out how to start their own Part 15 station for personal or campus-limited broadcasting.

I'd like to know if there are others who would be interested in such an event. No target date has been set but the location would be in the Southwestern Connecticut area depending on the available meeting location.

This is an excellent idea Bill. Unfortunately I live in Kansas City right now and the prospect of relocating to a location closer to coastal Connecticut is not particularly good at the moment. If some miracle occurs that allows me to move back to the Northeast or at least a location closer to CT I'll try to attend.

FYI. Ten years ago I hosted a conference for the then proposed LPFM service in the Hartford suburb of Simsbury. Around a dozen people from most New England states attended. The Hartford Advocate actually ran a pretty detailed story promoting the event and a few online publications at the national level also gave it some publicity. You may be able to get some media coverage to promote and possibly cover the event.

I like the idea of a conference. Whether I can attend would be up in air. Naturally we'd want it to fall on a weekend.
I know exactly how long it takes me to drive to western CT. Perhaps a somewhat more central location would result in greater
attendance. Pennsylvania is beautiful and would be a "medium drive" for a lot of people...less expensive hotels, too.
There would be some advantage to holding the conference in a location where the extended AM is fairly clear.
It would be very helpful to have some demonstrations of the various setups and equipment for those who are starting out.
I assume we'd also be talking about establishment of a more useful LPAM service with slightly more power or slightly more efficient
radiators.

Count me as an "I'll try real hard to attend".

For those of us in the wide open west and therefore a loooooonnnng ways away......has any thought been given to webstreaming this conference?

Excellent suggestion! In fact, it could be taken one step further and two way communication could be involved.

I wrote a speech for a gathering of the Society of Broadcast Engineers about five years ago that I recorded and had played back at the event because I was unable to attend. Perhaps anyone that cannot attend Bill's event but would like to speak or offer some kind of useful information could be allowed to do something similar.

I've done numerous video conferences using iChat on a PowerBook. It's easy and inexpensive. I'm sure something like this can be done for both Mac and PC.

Why not a WEBEX meeting, not only can you share files on each other's computer but if you have video capability you can see who you're talking to.. this is how it's done now in the aerospace industry, we do this at least twice a week here.

I agree this is an excellent idea to share views and comments on the Part15 community.

I know the tentative location has a Polycom system so if we can pair up with a sister site with a Polycom or compatible system it should be a piece of cake. This also opens the ability to archive the conference for later playback.
