Part 15 station programming

What programming do you Part 15 owners put on there?

On my Part 15 station, I have an Active Rock format from 6am-8pm weekdays and a Country format 8pm-6am weekdays. On weekends, it is Active rock from 6am-1pm and 5pm-9pm and Classic Rock from 1-5 pm. From 9pm-6am weekends, I have the Country format.

I think this is a big mistake. By mixing different formats, you totally confuse your listeners. "When should I tune in to get country..lets see...." It has been my experience to pick a format and run it ONLY 24/7. You will build your audience much better with only one format. Been in the radio game for over 50 years, and still learning... just sayin'....

If it was a real station, I'd stick to one format 24/7. Its just for fun because I only have one FM transmitter and enjoy both country and rock. If I get another FM transmitter, I'll move the country over there and have one all-country station and one all-Active Rock station.

There are many college stations with different formats in different parts of the day. E.g. WRTI in Philadelphia, they have Classical in the day and Jazz at night. Also, WPRB has indie rock, news, classical, jazz, and hip hop in different times of the day.

Country since July of 2003, and also streamed at http://www.bigdcountry.com. It's a mix of current country and classic country. I host a live program on weekday afternoons as well.

The only deviation from the format is some Christian programming on Sundays.

Oldies Since June of 2009.
There's some Talk Programming as well
Sports, current events, ect.

When I first signed on in 2008 it was a variety of music and talk programming

You know.. I personally like mixed formats.. but more in a random sense. For example, have a few drinks in a bar for a couple of hours, one minute you'll hear AC/DC playing, the next it might be Dean Martin, after that Lyle Lovette, then Kings of Leon, Nirvana, Roy Orbinson, Frank Sinatra, Bad Company, Johnny Cash, Aerosmith ... you get what I mean, the jukebox never quits, the genre never stays the same, and the people don't get confused by it, nor put off by it -- The completely different styles of music just add contrast to the atmosphere.

But I get what you're saying. A radio station aint a bar room, and the idea of a mixed format station may seem ridiculous.. uh..
just sayin'...

How do you get sports?

Rob and the boys from Sports Radio NY....we used to carry them but it didn't really fit in our format. We are all alternative talk..all the time. We started out with just pulling in network shows from Rense, RBN, Oracle Broadcasting and a few others....then decided to start our own network to do some of it ourselves. (BTW: Our shows are free to carry if anyone is daring enough...lol..just let me know you are doing so...) You can find out about what we do at http://oriontalkradio.com and http://micro1650am.com.

I wouldn't do it any other way than what you describe above. Except by making the variance even wider.

To me it is an anti-format, not letting any particular "aura" dominate too much.

I'm deciding to end the Rock/Country hybrid for the station and go Mainstream Rock, playing all classic rock from the Beatles to Metallica, and the only new artists I play are Bush, Evanescence, Within Temptation, Staind, Local H, Collective Soul and the Foo Fighters. The format is similar to WYSP's classic rock format from 2008-2011.
