Party 105 Translator in Nassau County

Party 105 on Long Island is no longer just an east end station. They recently signed on a translator on 101.5 in Plainview (east-central Nassau County). Being just a translator its only 10 watts from 509 feet and its coverage is generally over a small area, however it greatly increases the reach of Party 105 as it covers much heavier densely populated areas than 105.3. the signal covers Western Suffolk (where Party had no or a weak signal prior) and eastern & central Nassau county. Along the south and north shores the station doesn't go as far west into Nassau, but in the central portion of the county, it can go as far west as the Mineola and Garden city areas. Though not sure how strong it is, outside of a car that afr west. I'm about 7.5-8 miles south of the transmitter and the signal is pretty decent.

Even though it's only 10 watts, it doubles the number of people who can hear Party 105 well. It's hard to get Party 105 west of the Nassau/Suffolk border. Just hope that Party keeps playing dance and WDAS from Philly doesn't intrude too much

Its good news but the signal is to limited. You cant get it west past the meadowbrook parkway. I wish they can improve the signal.

WDAS wouldn't be much of an issue thats 105.3, the big class B talker WKXW on 101.5 from just outside Trenton does cause some issues to the west. Rips into the 101.5 signal around the Meadowbrook, especially the further south you go. While for the most party Party's signal on 101.5 is solid by me, the spot where I parked today at the far east end of the Massapequa train station today WKXW ripped into it, but when I moved my car a few feet Party 105 was back on 101.5. Ironically in the same parking spot Party did come in pretty clear on 105.3.

I received the signal perfectly driving around this morning in Hicksville/Levittown/Bethpage/Seaford. In Seaford the signal was much better in the morning than it was at night. Seemed to be spotty interference around 9pm driving around the area that cleared up as I drove North and moved towards the stick location.

Also I doubt that a power increase is on the horozion. This was done to give additional coverage to Nassau County on a translator station. Those stations tend not to be eligible for power increases.

Glad to have a station playing current dance that I can listen to that is local.

In East Meadow at the hospital where I work the signal comes in great like i said in the rest of my post the frequency comes in barely listenable cause of NJ 101 but I still love to listen anyway.

I got it all the way from Stamford, CT to the Bronx along I95!
Who cares about NJ 101.5 in Nassau county? Expand 101.5 till it reaches NJ.

I would love for Party 101 to increase its frequency!

Increasing the frequency would only put the station farther up the FM dial, it wouldnt improve the signal. I think you mean Increase the Power, or Wattage.... Its great that Party has this new translator station, but it would be better if they played a little less Hip Hop. This station never keeps their mix of dance and hip hop consistent. Are they streaming online, I really havent heard the station since Viv Latino came back...

I have an interesting problem.

I can actually catch the 105.3 signal in The Bronx being that I live so high up, and with Long Island in the clear. So I figure, with Nassau County closer, I could pull in 101.5 with NO problem and get a BETTER sound.

HOWEVER, there is a DAMN CARIBBEAN PIRATE somewhere in the North Bronx/Mt. Vernon area that blocks 101.5!

WTH????!!!!

I doubt you would be able to pull in 101.5 in the Bronx anyway Tony. 101.5 may have a better signal when your up close to it, but in the long run 105.3 has a better chance to actually be DXed farther west. 10 watts isnt really enough power to be DXed, even the 27 watt and 250 watt translaters have a hard time covering more than 10 or 15 miles. I noticed alot of Urban Carribean Pirates last time I was in New York, I think NYC is turning into Miami. The FCC doesnt really seem to care, even though they block out local stations. But anyway, if it werent for the Pirate, I would say you would most likely pick up the Philly station in the High Rise in the bronx.

You're probably right Mid West. But since someone had mentioned getting the signal in Stamford and Rye (along I-95), my terrace has a major part of the Long Island Sound facing and thought perhaps I could pull in 101.5. Though if I did put the same radio in the bedroom (which faces the Hudson River), then I would get NJ 101.5 (WKXW) better.

Unfourtunatly I dont know if you have noticed this yet Tony, But their is another pirate on 99.1 that blocks out Star 99.1s signal. That sucks because Star has a pretty good signal in The Bronx and relies somewhat on Listeners from the area. I have people that know people at Star, and last I heard they were gonna go after that pirate with a vengence. Hopefully by now they have got him caught. I normally support responsible Free Radio, but only on completely open frequencys, and they should NOT cause interference, or leave Dead Carriers running when the station isnt on air like most pirates do. Wouldnt it make since to put a pirate on a clean frequency so their signal goes farther, that would give the pirates, and the legal stations both alot less trouble. Plus, with all the pirates in NYC, why do they all play Urban Carribean Music, why doesnt someone put a much needed Dance Format on one of those open frequencys?

It seems like a lot of the pirates of the carribean format (just had to get the movie title in there) are owned by the same person. I didn't hear a pirate at 101.5 the other day when I heard Party 101.5 past New Rochelle and Rye. There are plenty of pirates that I have heard for more than 2 years that put out high power, which obviously haven't been caught yet. There's a high powered pirate on 96.5 just 10 miles from a licensed Class B 96.3 that unofficially has become New York's 3rd hip hop station. Sometimes 2 pirate stations on the same frequency interfere with each other.

NJ 101.5, WPDH, and Party 105 should band together to get rid of the pirate at 101.5. I'd rather hear all 3 of those stations interfering with each other than the pirate. Or at least simulcast the Party 105 webstream on the 101.5 pirate.

Is the pirate on 96.5 that you are taling about happen to be Streetz 96? I hear they play some Dance on there, but not that much.

Just read on the other New York radio board about one pirate in Brooklyn on 90.5.

These are the pirates I get in the Bronx.....

91.9, 94.5 (merengue), 95.1 (pentecostal), 101.5 (Caribbean), 104.7 (Caribbean), 106.3 (Caribbean).

The lack of enforcement on a state and federal level to stop these pirates, along with low fines, just make it easy for these renegade operators to continue to broadcast for as one pirate goes down, another goes up.

We have a really bad pirate in my area on 102.9 that plays Satanic music and messages all weekend, with lots of swearing on air, and very weird dark sounding music. This station covers at least 10-15 miles, and leaves a dead carrier on all week untill their weekend satanic broadcast. Thats not fair, because I have been busted twice for Boaderline Pirate Radio, less than one watt, Ran the station profesionally with a Dance/CHR format and caused no interference to anyone, im in a rural Indiana town, what can that hurt. Yet the FCC has been here twice, once to confiscate my first equipment, and the second time they showed up I wasnt even broadcasting at the time, so they couldnt do anything. I almost got a 10 grand fine for the first time but fought it in court. Its not fair that these metropolitan pirates can put out 1 KW of power, cause interference, be involved with Drugs and gangs, and nothing is ever done to them.
