The past few days tropo has been bringing in Party 105.3 to New Jersey, at times it was coming in stronger than WNYZ in my area. I have to admit that I listened to PartyFM while driving more in the past 4 days than the entire time it's been on 87.7. One of my biggest regrets is not taking PartyFM for what it was, and wishing that it would be a Pulse. It hit me on the day after dance disappeared from 87.7 how lucky we were to even have a Party format.
There was some hip hop this past week, but not as much as when it was on 87.7. It was about a 75% dance/25% hip hop mix, and the hip hop played has been popular songs also heard on 92.3 Now, back when it was on channel 6, it played hip hop that wasn't so well known. Party FM has been playing a lot more new dance tracks. I don't recall it being as cutting edge for dance when it was on 87.7.
Party FM hasn't sounded this good since Andre left for Pulse in 2008.
Maybe I'm feeling this way because New York has been without a dance station for over 2 months now, and I feel like any dance is better than no dance. I don't know if I, or the other Pulse listeners, would have accepted PartyFM sounding like this the day it took over 87.7. Maybe it's because I feel like the grass is greener on the other side. At least we'll be able to have a dance station along the immediate Jersey shore in the summer.
I also managed to pick up the tiny Party 101.5 signal on top of a parking garage this morning about 50 miles away from the W268AN translator site, as well as pick up a few Long Island and Connecticut stations in HD. I've only been able to DX Party 101.5 once before, at Belmar last summer during an intense tropo opening. This tropo could be classified as intense, since I saw a report of someone in Massachusetts picking up stations from Florida on tropo (http://www.wtfda.info/showthread.php?t=4197).
