Passing of Charlie Douglas

Inducted into the Country Music Disc Jockey Hall of Fame in 1994, the father of overnight trucking radio began his broadcasting career four decades earlier at KLIC in Monroe, LA. In 1970, Charlie Douglas and His Road Gang beamed to truckers nationwide over WWL in New Orleans, LA. Then, in 1983, Charlie moved to Nashville to replace Chuck Morgan as host of Music Country Radio. In 1995, he left WSM to operate Compact Disk Xpress.
Received word today that Charlie had passed away in Louisiana. What a guy..and what a friend...

I never met Charlie, but he and Dave Nemo on the Road Gang are responsible for my great love of classic country music which led to an interest in all genres. Before I started listening to Charlie Douglas on WWL, I was only interested in the top 40 of the day.

Sad news, he was probably the best all night disc jockey of all time.

would I have scene him on a trucker music commercial in the 80's? I was trying to place the name.
Yes, he appeared in several TV commercials for different "Trucker'' compulations during the 80's. I didn't realize that he didn't move to Nashville until the early to mid 80's.

Charlie Douglas -- aka Doug China -- was one of the true "good guys" in our industry and in my life. I join with so many others in mourning his passing but in fond memory of all that he was. So long old friend.....Craig Scott
