Passing of one time WAMS DJ

Lisa Qualls, wife of one time WAMS manager & WNRK sales rep Tim Qualls, has passed at age 54. Using the air name Randi Steele, she was the last voice heard on WAMS before it went dark and the towers came down on Mt. Cuba.

For those interested, her obit and pic are in today's (Sunday) News-Journal.

I had the fortune of working with Lisa and Tim Qualls from 1990 to 1991. That last year for the original 1380 WAMS was a fun packed year, we did more as far as appearences, remotes, and oldies dances than many stations do in a couple years now a days. When I came on board in 1990 Lisa (Randi Steele) was working afternoons with Vince (John Vincent) they were doing a morning style show in the afternoon. They moved me into the afternoon drive slot and John & Randi took over morning duties waking up Wilmington listeners.

I remember Lisa as being a very fun down to earth lady who knew when to be serious and when to cut up. I have fond memories of that whole WAMS group from that time period 20 and 21 yrs ago on Mt. Cuba. I have a video of me doing my air show the last week of 1380 WAMS before it went dark and Lisa is in a few segments of it. I will cherrish it more now. My heart goes out to Tim Qualls and the family. I wish I could make the memorial but obligations in TN with work keep me from being able. RIP (Randi Steele) Lisa Qualls. :'(
