Passing The Who Cares Test

Talkers Magazine is out with their top 100 talkers for 2009 and once again Nurse Jeff and I wonder if anyone really cares? KT'R's Aunt Carlos leads the locals at #79, while the Nearly Bald One of KFWhyEye is ranked somewhere bewteen 101-250 (after the Top 100 they don't rank anyone). Not a mention of Mac 'n Cheesy Gaydos; JD Loudmouth; The Evil Joe Crummey; Bruce Jacobs or even the Luvable One. However Mrs Nearly Bald One ranks at #37, even though her Fenix Flagship carries only 2/3's of her show!

If I'm still driving after 8:00 AM, Barry is on my radio. If I am in the office however, I listen to KFI's Handel (still damn mad KFYI moved his weekend show from my Saturday afternoon "garage time" to Sunday evenings). Dr. Akbar, please shed a little light on the jargon for me, what does the acronym TMISU mean? Thank you.

Barry Young should be somewhere on the top, AND should also have a longer show time, in addition to weekend time.

My top picks would be

1. Coast To Coast AM with George Noory
2. The Nearly Famous Barry Young
3. Handel on The Law
4. ...well I'm not exactly sure what 4 is and don't want to spend any time thinking about it or coming back to edit, but I'll just say Mike Broomhead is very good too, and The Tech Guy Leo Laporte I got used to because he would come on my Sunday line up of favorite shows, when I used to use Sunday's to "unwind" and listen to certain shows from around noon til' Coast. I remember when the Rusty Humphrey show was one of my favorites, but now it's been so long that I'm not sure if I can accurately say he's still one of my favorites today, since I've changed a bit and also changed my ways of thinking and how I process information I'm given since that time. Rusty Humphrey was actually the one who introduced me to common sense and taught me that what feels good or sounds good isn't always the most sensible and logical decision to make, and there are SOME (not all) times when emotion should be the bases of your decision making and opinions.... but unfortunately there are still too many people in this world who can't see or detect this... but that's another story I will not even spend the next few hours getting into right now. ... Look at me already starting! I probably need my own show... alright - ENOUGH SAID.

BOTTOM LINE IS THIS:
I wish Coast to Coast and Barry Young were on FM, and those would be my picks for the best. I'm sure other cities and towns have people I haven't even heard of that are good, too. Rush always hits me with common sense issues, facts, and logical thinking, but there's just something about his show that doesn't keep me tuned in. Barry just has that voice and attitude, and most of the Coast to Coast AM hosts have that perfect sound for that type of show.

It's not really an acronym, but the abbreviation for The Men In Secret Underwear. Like you, we miss Handel On The Law on Sunday afternoons...a lot more entertaining than the audio portion of Meet The Depressed heard on KT'R 92~Three. BTW...Handel placed #19 on Talkers Magazine Heavy Hundred. Nurse Jeff and I are still combing the list for the award winning Tony Femino ;)

I've been seeing this "TMISU" for some time and don't understand it either. I've tried Googling it, and guessing it, but still it falls into the category of yet another made-up abbreviation that renders communications so time consuming that takes the fun OUT of reading the posts. Those of you who get the meaning must be the In Crowd. The rest of us are out if it. TISI! IHTBS! ITF?

Like it or hate it, TMISU has a meaning. The Men In Secret Underwear is a somewhat un-PC reference to the Bonneville Corp., which is owned by the business arm of the LDS Church. Part of LDS theology involves the wearing of sacred undergarments by the faithful. Bonneville owns KTAR AM / FM and 98.7 the Peak.

Oh...that's funny. I would never have guessed! Thanks for the enlightenment!

Google can't keep up with our Dr. Akbar! :)

Isn't it awful having Handel on Sunday nights? There was nothing better than working in the yard on Sunday, broadcasting Handel's political incorrectness to the neighborhood via my radio on the porch. And Kim Kommando's move is just as bad. She had that noon Saturday spot forever!

In Crowd? Not too many radio geeks (and fans) in that group!

Plus KMVP, the unsold former Sports Siberia Lot 8~Sixty....now with more power at night than during the day!

Let's face it, the Talkers Magazine list is a joke!

All you need to know is that the top 30 has several no-names and the person that was THE pioneer of talk radio, Howard Stern, is #32! How many people on that Talkers Magazine list could possibly get millions of people to PAY to hear their show? How many of those hosts on that list have spawned literally thousands of imitators and caused an entire sub-genre of talk radio to be created? I hate 'hot talk', but let's be honest here, most of the people on that list are folks that no one has ever heard of unless you're 1) Sun City/coffin bound, 2) a true radio junkie or 3) one of the other people on that list.

As for Aunt Carlos: He isn't even number one in his time slot; either in the station's target demo, 12+ or the Sun City crowd. So, explain to me how he should be #79 on any list... he may be the 79th best host in Phoenix, behind Dr. Akbar, myself, Legend City and anyone actually on the radio these days.

Yeah, but look at what we do get on Saturday...endless hours of Dr. Fraud and his health sham show, now with 79% commercial content! Remember, don't have that lump checked out, just head to the heath food store and buy some oregano oil for it.

Nurse Jeff and I wonder what the paid circulation of that magazine is ? ::)

The criteria for the rankings is based upon "a combination of hard and soft factors". Meanwhile we're scratching our heads wondering what that means!
