Pat Barry Gone from Mojo 100.3

You didn’t hear Pat Barry on WMOJ-FM (100.3) this morning, and you won’t hear him tomorrow. The DJ-turned-weatherman-turned-DJ has left “Jammin’ Oldies” after about 13 months.

Here’s the message he posted on his Facebook page today:

An update about me.

Will not be on the radio.

Many thanks to GM Doug Spak and PD Steve Harris.

It just was not working out for me.

I am launching a new busines very soon. I need to spend my time with this new project. Expect announcement soon. Maybe by the end of the week. You will love it. Thanks for all the support.

Pat Barry

Jammin Oldies 100.3, has none of the personality of the original Mojo 94.9 had. I wonder if this station is for sale as they just dumped one of their Columbus station which was running Jack recently or possibly flipping to their Old School 90's R&B/Rhythmic format. Pat Barry was also voice tracking evenings on the station which made no sense at all. Probably felt like it was time to move on to other things outside of radio.

Sell it back to someone in Connersville, Indiana... The damned thing never should have been moved in the first place!

I Agree it should have never been moved from Connersville in the first place. but i dont think they really can move it back now without having to move other stations back to pre Cincy Move in factors.

That's a shame. I actually enjoyed Pat Barry on Mojo. Didn't mind hearing him again in the evening.

My TSL on Mojo throughout the day is pretty high, but the library turns over a little too fast. There are a lot of big hits missing from that playlist.

Mojo 100.3 could sound better and I agree the burnout of its small playlist is a problem with the Jammin Oldies format.

There are a LOT of missing songs on Mojo. One huge hit that I've never heard on Mojo is "Every 1's a Winner" by Hot Chocolate. Or, any other Chic song other than "Le Freak"... what's wrong with "My Feet Keep Dancing" or "I Want Your Love" They play the same Bee Gees tunes, but I never hear "Nights on Broadway" or "Tragedy"... You never hear "A Fifth of Beethoven" by Walter Murphy, or "Let's all Chant" by the Michael Zager Band... all of these were HUGE hits.

And please, I'm a veteran PD, so please spare me the "that song didn't test well" garbage.

I would be with you, veteran PD, including the most discoish "Let's All Chant".. as a listener. The problem is, little or none of these songs were played on the radio in Cincinnati during the 70's. Q102 (and I was there) did not overload on disco (even if I tried to make it so) and many of these titles might not be familiar in a market where no one leaves. (Moving away from home in Cincinnati means you've moved one parish west.)

The problem with Mojo was tempo and feel. Jammin' Oldies is supposed to be fun - upbeat - laughing - music to make me feel good. Not music to make me feel old. I never got that "wow this is fun" feeling when listening, even when Pat was on.

The "excitement" is missing from most of radio. The giveaways, the interaction, the live talent. Nobody is pointing a gun and saying "don't". All it will take is a few stations to start the push and the momentum will gain. Look at the stunting pre-Journey 94.1. Q didn't play a lot of the disco - I remember listening to it on WLW. Part of the problem is that PD/MD's weren't from around here and just don't get Cincinnati. It's a different market.

The problem is Radio One. 100.3 needs jingles, promotion, and personalities that know the format. They should just sell the station to someone who knows the Cincinnati market.
