Pat Cashman doing weather on KOMO TV

Just saw Pat Cashman doing the weather on KOMO TV. He's played so many
fictional characters, this seems odd.

I thought Pat Cashman was supposed to have talent. How come this idiot cant make it in the local Seattle market with all his years of experience? His career is flowing in reverse.

KOMO is really in need of a 4th weather forecaster... They had 4 when Rick Van Cise was there - but he was never replaced.

For a while they were using Susan West as the 4th weather caster, she was horrible. She couldn't even stand in front of the wall to do it. She sat at the desk and read the teleprompter.

Then, for a while they were using freelancers and other forecasters from Oregon Fisher stations (Ron Pederson was pretty good, Seth Wayne was okay). Also, Brian Calvert shows up now and again in front of the wall.

But now - Pat Cashman, well.... i'll give him a few days.

Well, keep watching. You might see what he does best. There's a new promo for the morning news cast in which we hear a testimonial from, of all people, Mike & Denise Todd. No kidding.

Comes complete with the usual Cashman touches. Funny.

Besides, doing the weather doesn't absolutely require a degree in Meteorology - or at least it didn't. Way way back when (we're talking shortly after KOMO went to color), they had Marge the weather girl do the forecast sitting on a huge graphic relief map of the region.

Even Letterman did weather forcasts during his early days in Indiana. I haven't seen Cashman on KOMO yet, but maybe this could be his thing.
______________

If memory serves...

Pat did weather at a station in Oregon many years ago. Seems he was fired for doing shtick. Or quit because he wanted to do shtick.
______________

Ssssshhhh, Pat Cashman is a radio "personality." Don't aggravate the people here who feel he's something different and is good for Seattle radio.

Even though he's been shown the door at three different radio stations in the past six years.

There are radio Emmy awards?

That's true. I don't think Steve Pool has even taken a meteorological course. Maybe reading "Weather for Dummies," but that's about it.

With the "show" rather than substance being the driving force at KOMO TV in weather forecasting, Cashman would be a good fit.

Re: If memory serves...

I think we all agree that Pat is a funny guy, but seriously... why does he fail everywhere? I hope this gig as a freak'n weatherman is finally the right fit for the guy. He's always been good for a lot of laughs, just not good for a lot of ratings!

Yet another parallel to Letterman's career. Dave got fired for predicting hail "the size of canned hams."

Maybe the only thing Cashman lacks is a space between his teeth and a bald Canadian music director.

Re: The truth about Pat Cashman

I must say this. I worked at KING during the "Almost Live" years. Of everyone I met there, Pat was by far the most curteous, kindest, generous person I met. Never any negativity. I learned a lot from him, and most of it was not Broadcast related. He taught me how important it is to be nice.

I truly wish him the best - he deserves it.

Cashman on KOMO-TV - Almost Live REUNION Special

Cashman's last WX fill-in on KOMO-TV was today (8-3)...

He'll be doing some "Evening Mags" for KING-TV later in the month...

Word has it there will be a NEW "Almost Live Reunion Special" coming this September!

Yes, Pool spent time at the UW taking meteorological courses. We had the same professor, who loved to tell us who on TV knew what they were talking about, and who didn't.

Anyone here remember "Almost Live!" on KING=TV? How quickly people forget that Cashman had a TV gig prior to radio.
______________
