Congratulations to former Cool 96.9 Jacksonville Mid Day/PD. Pat Garrett has been nominated for R&R's Oldies Personality/Show of the Year. The nod is for his outstanding air work at Entercom's Oldies 93, WMQX in Greensboro-Winston Salem!! Way to go Pat. Jacksonville's and then Savannah's loss is a big gain for Market 45!!
Eventually the Cream does rise to the top. Pat's a class act!
Great news and not surprising to many of us! Again, the frustration factor in trying to understand why the Jax market does what it does and lets great talent slip through its fingers....
Over the past week or so, Oldies 93, WMQX has begun streaming and I have enjoyed listening to it. There are lots of 70s mixed with 60s and it all works. It's not "your father's oldies station" as they remind us. The talent sounds motivated and Pat himself has never sounded better. There is an on-air excitment that is hard to explain in words and so if you are a fan of Pat's and want to hear a great example of what today's oldies stations sound like, give the station a listen. Oldies93.Com
Pat does a Brunch with the Beatles feature on Sunday mornings (8-10 ET) and if what I heard is representative of a typical show, then that in itself is award-worthy.
One other feature I like is they spotlight a lost oldie during various parts of the day. It's enough to introduce the "wow" factor on occasion that keeps you wanting to tune in. At any rate, I have a feeling the station will get even better and I couldn't be happier Pat is back doing what he apparently so loves to do.
Doesn't say too much for your opinion..Oldies 93 and Pat Garrett is no more..Country 93.1 The Wolf WPAW.. 94.1 Majic formally HITZ 94 in Lexington, NC picked up both Nov 15 Oldies and Garrett..SUX too!

My my. Interesting that you had to go back to a thread from early September to spew this stuff. As far as my opinions go, it's just that - an opinion. But I have to remember that radio is cold and impersonal. I was thinking logically and no doubt with compassion in that surely the station was not about to hire someone from out of town, requiring a move of family for starters to only flip to something else in a matter of months. But it's more important to throw your competitors off than to care about individuals. But that's the business world and to use one of your words it "sux."
Even today's version of oldies is not for everyone - if you don't like it fine. But if you don't know squat about someone and their track record (and I've read many of your NC posts) don't be so quick to judge.
And for those interested, Pat has assumed responsibilities as consultant/format coordinator. Basically he's responsible for all the music and imaging. Again, just my opinion - but at least they have given those responsbilities to someone who knows what he's doing.
It wasn't meant as an insult, just caught my eye when I was reading some back posts looking for something regarding Marshall Rowland at WQIK. I happen to know the situation at Majic 94.1 and believe me it's not a fun enviroment, not if you know Tom Collins.
Happy Holiday's to You Too
