PAT HANNIGAN

SORRY TO REPORT THE DEATH OF FORMER SABRES BROADCASTER AND HOCKEY PLAYER, PAT HANNIGAN. DEATH NOTICE AT BUFFALO NEWS.COM

Sad news. A class act. In addition to his hockey career, he was a social activist and worked in helping refugees in Fort Erie.

Sorry to hear of this...Pat was a fine broadcaster and a good man who'll be missed not just for his work behind the mike but his work in the community he called home.

We've also lost one of the remaining links with those exciting early years of the Sabres...who can forget those broadcasts Pat and Ted Darling brought us back in the day?

We're lucky we still have Rick Jeanneret, who has also been with the broadcast team from the beginning, to bring us our favorite hockey team in an exciting way--he's probably the best play-by-play man in the league, let's appreciate him while we can.

Pat also taught Public Relations and Advertising at Buffalo State when I attended there in the 70s.

He was full-time for the Sabres as well, and I was working full-time for WGR doing station promos and imaging.

Of course...my final project for Pat's class was a series of Sabres promos I'd produced with Tom Donahue, featuring Pat, Ted and Rick. Got an "A", doncha know.

I think I even showed up at class a time or two. ;-)

Godspeed, Pat!
