Pat Hernandez

Any one know what happened to Pat?

After getting let go from KILT AM/FM a few years back, he then resurfaced on KTRH as a weekend anchor & reporter. Now within the past few months he's no longer on KTRH.

Pat's always been a class act and I got to meet him once. A very nice man.

Pat is now a WalMart greeter at the new WalMart Supercenter in Richmond/Rosenberg.

Same ole lame joke. Come up with new ones. I just read this same joke in this same board about three weeks ago. We need something fresh! These walmart greeting jokes are nice, but something different now. How about, he took your order at the drive through of Pollo Campero? (I know, it's Korny)

Pat left KTRH a few weeks ago. It was his choice. He told me he plans on taking some time off. I presume he will wind up as a local PIO or doing something with a local City Hall.

Pat was one of the first people I met when I arrived at KILT in 1984. I've shared many a laugh and good conversations with Pat through the years. He will be a great asset to anyone who hires him.

true that

I've known Pat since he and I worked together at all-news KEYH before it switched to Spanish language programming in 1979.

Steve Gilmartin was our sports guy, and the three of us had the only fun anybody at that station was having at that time.

Pat is one of the nicest guys I've ever known in this business, and I truly hope he ends up behind somebody's radio mic somewhere.

TJ is real cutie! ...and a peach to work with.

I always thought it would be cool if Pat H. would do some jocking too, in addition to his news work. He's pretty funny off the air. Oh, wait, you cant be funny anymore. Maybe he has some old airchecks. Dont worry about Pat. He'll pop up somewhere.

I met Pat a week or so before he was scheduled to leave KTRH. He said he was going to enjoy some "unemployment time" then start looking again. A friend tells me he was considering working for the city in some sort of public information capacity. Great guy, he added class to the Saturday anchor staff.

Yes a great guy to work with. Congratulations Pat on this positive career move.

Filio, I don't know if we knew each other, but I used to work at KEYH and KTRH in years gone by. I was there when Steve Gilmartin came there, and it was quite a surprise, as I used to work in radio in Cumberland, MD where we carried Steve's broadcasts of the Redskins over WMAL in Washington. I worked with Pat Hernandez at KTRH, and with J.P. Pritchard, first at KULF, then later at KTRH. Oh for the good old days.

I have been out of the business for many years, much to my sometimes regret, and away from Houston for 15 years. I am glad I found this board...lots of memories.

No doubt about it - Pat is a class act. Both on and off the air.

Hernandez was a fine radio man. Rumor has it that he's lining up a run for office.

Ahh... this is like a horrible game of telephone, where things get distorted.

Pat was one of the hardest working men in the business I knew... and let's face it. The industry is stressful.

He left on good terms... and needed to get away. He needed to spend time with his family too-- they saw very little of him, with the long hours he put in.

He's already in his next job. He's working for Michael Berry's office (not clear channel... but his own personal office). And it's a lot less stressful-- he gets to see his family more.

After all the years he put in... I'm glad he left went HE wanted to.

Pat Hernandez is an amazing man. What a sad, sad day that he gave up the microphone. The loss from this industry is an injustice. A great reporter, a very solid anchor, and an even better friend. I hope we didn't lose him for long.

Oh yeah. Pat, I need your e-mail, ole chap. I somehow deleted it.

I always thought Pat would end up doing media relations for city hall or parks and rec or something like that. He's got the contacts and the personality for it. But a run for a city wide office would be great too!
Don't get me started on Pat stories at KILT. I will embarrass both of us.

Pat Hernandez run for elected office? Forget about it. He won't do that because that's just not the sort of person he is.

I know I'm generalizing here, but think this through with me. To even think about running for office a person needs a gigantic ego and an over-inflated opinion of himself. Does that describe the Pat Hernandez we all know and love?

I've known Pat for 30 years and I just cannot see him even thinking about getting into politics, or subjecting himself and his family to the brutal uncertainties of that kind of life.

IF, I repeat, IF, Pat is still working outside radio two years from now when Michael Berry runs for Mayor, and he will, it's possible that Pat will work in his campaign.

And if Berry is elected, Pat would probably go to work in the Mayor's office. Working for an elected official is a lot different from trying to be an elected official yourself.

And I'm not giving up on Pat getting back into radio. I think he will.
