pathetic? Jimmy, JD Wells threads observations

When former 99x mornings Jimmy Barron gets 'fired' from WGST before he even got to fill in 3p - 7p the week of July 3rd (because some postings on Jimmy's myspace blog pissed off the regular WGST host and his staff):

... and the guy who then gets to sub 3p - 7p feels the need to start a thread on this message board concerning his week of hosting, and to defend WGST, and then ends up having to get defensive about himself to a frickin message board!

... it just all seems f****ed up IMHO. Jimmy was pulling well over 400K at the height of his career, and has now been reduced to losing gigs before he even starts them because of what he posts on his myspace blog? And the guy who then gets to fill in afternoons gets all defensive to a bunch of posters? Pathetic. You think?

Agreed. One of the things mentioned in Howard Stern's "Private Parts" movie is that one of the reasons he was so popular on the radio is that the people who loathed him actually listened two to three times as long as his supporters. Because Bloomquest was getting flack even BEFORE Jimmy was on the air would make you think "hey, I might have something here" since it was getting hype by "word of mouth" alone. Not only that, but it was getting hype for a show during a holiday week, which is usually a poor ratings week.

I didn't listen to JD's show, so I don't know how he did. I would've listened to Jimmy, not only because I've met him, but I listened to the Morning X ever since I moved to Atlanta in '99 and have liked to hear him on the air since. Normally, I'm not an avid AM talker listener. That's not my cup of tea. With that being said, here's one sample of a market that would've been enticed to flip just because JB was on the air.

As far as blogs are concerned, I've heard a number of stories where people have lost their jobs because of what they said on their blog, either giving out trade secrets or just bashing their employer. Is it wrong? Giving out trade secrets, well, employers are definately justified for that. For bashing your job, though, most employers these days would never hesitate to get rid of a disgruntled employee, especially after since "going postal" is now a household phrase.

Was Jimmy bashing GST or Kim Peterson? Jimmy's a kidder, and has always been. That's what made him a great morning show host. He'll even make fun of himself, as he introduced himself as "I'm Jimmy from......Sandy Springs" at Christopher Calandro's website launch. It's meant to entertain and make people laugh. If people are entertained, then they'll tune in and stay tuned in. Jimmy knows that. Peterson should definately know that, and so should Bloomquest since entertainment is the number one thing that keeps people tune into a radio station. There's pleanty of informative programs out there, but if they're not entertaining, then people will just tune it out.

I find pathetic how Atlanta radio followers are so blinded by the fact that Jimmy Baron once made over $400K. Like that now makes him immune to getting fired from a fill-in job. I have no opinion about Baron's ability to host an entertianing, informed talk show. I haven't heard him do talk. But to bring up how much money he makes as proof that he was jobbed by WGST is asinine at best. Also, the poster who cites info from the Stern as "fact". That movie, like most, was pure propaganda. The biggest fallacy that movie portrayed about Stern is that he's a somewhat happy go lucky, albeit neurotic, indidvidual. The truth is that he's miserable and unhappy. I know.

First of all, I didn't state it as "fact", I just said it was mentioned in the movie, and it is. And I mentioned NOTHING about his happiness or lack thereof. I could care less about Stern, but to deny that he's a big draw from name alone is pure ignorance. And, I could care less that JB made over $400k at one time. ABC once paid Moby over $600k. So what? His salary had nothing to do with why he was ousted from the Kimmer fill-in job. It was his blog posting, which should have been taken as light humor at best. That's what we both are saying is pathetic, that some people can't take a joke.
