Patrick on/with 'The Playmaker' today...

Michael Irvin was on Dan Patrick's show today...they talked exclusively about Irvin's recent legal dust-up in the middle of what was supposed to be Keith Olbermann's hour on the Patrick show. Olbermann basically excused himself during the dozen minute or so chat that Irvin had with Patrick.

I thought Patrick was fair in his treatment of Irvin...fair but firm in that he more-or-less challenged Irvin, at least twice during the interview, to take a drug test in an effort to reclaim his credibility. Irvin danced better than Billy White Shoes Johnson but basically said he might consider it after talking with his attorney.

Patrick informed Irvin that his own father died at a young age, presumably due to alcohol abuse, and that Patrick was oh-so-familiar with the fabrications that substance abusers are capable of. Irvin, in my view, kind of fumbled his response to these 'questions'...

After the commercial, Olbermann came back and Patrick's first words, to my ears, seemed to ring true: "We want to believe Michael. I want to believe Michael. I really do."

It was good radio.

Did other posters hear what I heard? In the way that I heard it?

I heard it, and enjoyed it. I thought it was well done, and compelling. I'm sure other people hated it, since DP's show never seems to get anything but bashed around here, but I thought he was fair in his questioning. Irvin's not getting a yard pass just because he works for ESPN. Cowherd spent a large portion of his show talking about it also, and commenting that no one ever believes the "some other guy's stuff" defense.

I heard DP's show on Monday - and I agree with your assessment. DP seemed miffed by MI's response to his question (I'm summurizing here) - "Will you take a drug test right now to clear your name?"

MI's reply talked about his lawyer and legal stuff, and DP pressed him a couple times on how if he really wanted to eliminate doubt - that he would take a drug test right away.

I also heard Colin Cowherd's show - yesterday and today; yesterday his stance was "saying it is your friends's - is like saying the dog ate it, it is the oldest trick in the book, and no one believes it anymore." Today, like everyone else, he was just miffed that MI didn't say on DP's show that he would take a drug test immediately to clear his name.

I agree that Dan was fair and the interview really did show me that Michael Irvin is full of crap. Why wouldn't you want to take a drug test ?? If you are clean, why not say "C'mon brotha, okay DP let's get it done right now." Or whatever crap Irvin usually has to say to DP.
