Patriots/Broncos (Tim Tebow) Expected To Be Flexed On NBC "SNF" December 18

An announcement should be made sometime today, but it is being speculated that NBC is going to flex the game currently scheduled for "Sunday Night Football" on December 18 - Baltimore at San Diego - in favor of the Patriots/Broncos game.

Certainly, Tom Brady vs. Tim Tebow, if not the latter of the two quarterbacks alone, is more appealing than an aging defense vs. a fading team with a soon-to-be-fired coach and GM.

Re: Patriots/Broncos (Tim Tebow) Expected To Be Flexed On NBC "SNF" December 18

This would surprise me; I would think CBS would want to "protect" these games from flexing as both teams are in CBS O&O cities.

Re: Patriots/Broncos (Tim Tebow) Expected To Be Flexed On NBC "SNF" December 18

You do bring up a valid point - but according to the NFL's rules on flexible scheduling, it ensures the game that is played on Sunday night has "playoff significance" - of which both the Broncos and Patriots currently have. And the number of games that CBS and Fox can protect is limited at best. What's more, I saw some sports media guy on Twitter tweet yesterday that it's all but expected to happen, so I guess it's a done deal.

Re: Patriots/Broncos (Tim Tebow) Expected To Be Flexed On NBC "SNF" December 18

They can protect one a week, and if I was CBS I'd protect this one given that it is one of the few watchable games that week. If it does get flexed that leaves CBS (The DH network that week) with Jets/Philly, Cleveland/Arizona & the Sunday night flexed out game Baltimore @ San Diego as their 4:15 starts. From what I can tell, neither team is near their limit on primetime appearances.

But neither game is appealing. The Browns and the Cardinals? Seriously?

Makes sense for NBC to go with a game that is going to draw higher ratings. Outside of their home markets is there anyone who care about either of those teams? (Altho Baltimore is just as hot as the Patriots are in the AFC playoff hunt.)

Wow, way to show your bias. It's cool tho. I mean, if all 3teams within 100miles of me were doing as poorly as up your way, I'd probably be bitter too. :)

Re: Patriots/Broncos (Tim Tebow) Expected To Be Flexed On NBC "SNF" December 18

By now, the NFL usually makes an announcement on which game would be flexed out on Sunday Night Football ("no more than twelve days"). However, due to the tug-of-war between CBS and NBC over the right to air the game in Week 15, there will be an announcement made sometime this morning.

Re: Patriots/Broncos (Tim Tebow) Expected To Be Flexed On NBC "SNF" December 18

Looks like CBS wins the Tebow tug-of-war with NBC. Now watch the Broncos make the playoffs and they end up playing in the first round, a.k.a. Wild Card Weekend. I would love it if the NFL mandated the game that the Broncos are scheduled to play end up on NBC that Saturday night, as opposed to on CBS that Sunday. It's only fair.

Fair? There's no such thing as fair in business.

Good point - but when you're paying millions of dollars with other networks in a deal with the NFL... ::)

Re: Patriots/Broncos (Tim Tebow) Expected To Be Flexed On NBC "SNF" December 18

According to the506.com, the SNF game on Dec. 18 has settled on Ravens-Chargers, as
originally scheduled.

Re: Patriots/Broncos (Tim Tebow) Expected To Be Flexed On NBC "SNF" December 18

If I were NBC, I would have taken Jets/Eagles - the game that CBS originally protected for Week 15. Even if it doesn't mean as much now than it did a few months ago, I'd have grabbed that game from CBS for spite, at the very least. It's not like they'll be needing it, right?

Re: Patriots/Broncos (Tim Tebow) Expected To Be Flexed On NBC "SNF" December 18

I will say this: After all that CBS did to keep this game away from NBC, I'd better not find out that Jim Nantz and Phil Simms are going to be calling the Jets/Eagles game!

And with the "Tebow Time" phenomenon in full effect, one wonders why Joe Buck and Troy Aikman were in Tennessee (Saints/Titans) and not in Denver (Bears/Broncos) in Week 14.

Re: Patriots/Broncos (Tim Tebow) Expected To Be Flexed On NBC "SNF" December 18

FOX's 1 pm Saints Titans game had the largest regional audience, and the Saints figure to be the only NFC team with a shot a beating Green Bay in the NFC playoffs. Everyone is waiting for the "Tebow" factor to die off...and that should come this week against New England whose defense has a lot to answer for.

Re: Patriots/Broncos (Tim Tebow) Expected To Be Flexed On NBC "SNF" December 18

Question....

Here in south FL we'll be stuck w/ Dolphins/Bills at 1pm EST Sunday. Is it CBS's turn for the doubleheader on the 18th? If so, they'd be crazy here NOT to have the Tim & Tom Show right afterward!

They won't. It's already been announced that Nantz & Simms will be here in Denver

That answer to that is simple. CBS had the DH. Fox isn't going to send their top team to a 4:00 PM ET game if they don't have the DH. Neither would CBS for that matter. That only makes sense

Neither network has ever sent their top team to a 4:00 PM ET game without having the DH in recent memory as far as I can remember

Cheers & 73 :)

Re: Patriots/Broncos (Tim Tebow) Expected To Be Flexed On NBC "SNF" December 18

@CD: Indeed, CBS will have the doubleheader, just as they did the previous week. I'm sure the entire state of Florida should be able to see the game, what with the Jags playing on Thursday, and the Bucs playing on Saturday... When the Week 15 maps are live, this will be the link:
http://the506.com/nflmaps/2011/wk15.html

@Mr. Cook: I've never seen it that way... Was wondering why it was odd for Joe and Troy to be in Tennessee... that makes sense. Thanks!

Re: Patriots/Broncos (Tim Tebow) Expected To Be Flexed On NBC "SNF" December 18

^ Yes I saw the zap2it guide, and WFOR will have DEN/NE---but, WPEC has NYJ/PHI. This concerns me a bit, as Zap might be in error. ............. I thought that CBS & FOX always alternate doubleheader weeks; I thank the Lord in this case it doesn't.

Re: Patriots/Broncos (Tim Tebow) Expected To Be Flexed On NBC "SNF" December 18

Both networks will have a doubleheader in week 17! You've been warned! ;)

Re: Patriots/Broncos (Tim Tebow) Expected To Be Flexed On NBC "SNF" December 18

Remember that the Broncos play the Chiefs in Week 17, and while the AFC West is all but decided, there are wild card implications at stake. I'd like to see NBC get one back at CBS by getting this game for Week 17 after losing out to CBS in Week 15 - but it looks like Tim Tebow may have to be, I don't know, human for a game or two in order for it to happen...
