Paul and Young Ron

I know that in addition to South Florida, Paul and Young Ron are carried on Gator in West Palm Beach. With Clear Channels new program to "pick and choose" other CC talent,
do you think Paul and Ron will add more stations. I am a long time listener and certainly think they're capable of being a "national" type program.

I think they might be able to make the transition to a 'national' sounding show if they wanted to but I think one of the things that people like about them is that they're all about South Florida especially with regards to the events that they host.

I haven't seen any Paul & Young Ron listings on Clear Channel premium choice lists. The WKGR simulcast of their show gives them city-grade coverage up the east coast clear to Vero Beach, but further expansion would force them to become less South Florida based and potentially leave them more vulnerable to competitors.

Rumor going around that Paul & Ron will soon be heard on the CC stations
in Key Largo and Key West. It's like the Swine Flu spreading.

It's actually not a bad idea. Given the state of radio and the economy, better to have a "regional" morning show than bring in some big nationally syndicated thing from another city.
Think about it, they can still do hurricane coverage and Florida "news" and stories.
CC can sell big regional companies and entities too -- like AutoNation, the Dolphins & Marlins, etc.

I think it could work.

I've heard this as well. All lot will depend on the PPM results, which will be released today at noon. Too bad Neil isn't on the air today to read them.

It's a nice "theory" but listeners do not think "regionally". That's a radio invention. Listeners want to hear what
is relevant to THEM in their immediate area. People in Vero Beach and Key West could care less about "news" from Miami. The farther they try to stretch the "regional" concept, the less appealing it is to all the listeners. If you try to please all of the people all of the time, you please nobody. I agree that this is a better alternative than national syndication, but I still lament the loss of local talent serving their city of license. The Obama administration and the new FCC is preparing to come down HARD on broadcasters on the issue of Localism, and the large broadcast groups will be very much on the defensive.

From Radio and Records:

The "Paul & Young Ron Show"will add two new Florida affiliates on June 8: CCR classic rockers WAIL (Sun 99.5)/Key West and WFKZ (Sun 103.1)/Key Largo.

I think they can pull it off. It sounds simplistic but the Keys are a much a part of the culture here as anything. They may not be right there on Duval St. but I think they can still make it relevant and entertaining.

However you look at it, radio that was formerly localized is going to be regionalized.
Other stations in the market that are more localized will win in the ratings (if they
have them in the Keys) and with local advertisers. IMHO this is the death spiral
of radio, especially the big groups. BTW, I am wondering why a rock station with the
killer calls of WAIL is calling itself "Sun". I assume it is simulcast with the station
in Key Largo that is called Sun so they adopted the same name? What a waste of
great calls. I'm surprised that Clear Channel hasn't moved these call letters to one
of their larger market stations, which is their usual practice.

These regionally syndicated shows don't come with network spots, so selling regionally isn't a concern. It's just paying less money to someone already employed within rather than an additional full-time host. The stations get to keep all the local spots.
