PAUL CHRISTY TO NATIONAL SYNDICATION

R

I just read that K-HITS Paul Christy (the former West Coast Jock Eric Chase) has landed a national satellite syndication deal as reported today on radio-info.

Eric Chase join TKO Radio Network.
former KRTH, Los Angeles and KFRC, San Francisco jock Eric Chase will do afternoons.

I had a chance to work with Paul on the West Coast and he's gonna be a killer playing those greatest hits of the 60's and 70's on the big satellite! Hopefully he will be on an affiliate near me soon.

Rock on Paul! Its gonna be nice hearing you do compelling radio again. I hope they allow you to be yourself, bust out, and rock!

side note: If you YouTube Rolling Stones at Altamont, when the band is leaving, they show a KFRC helicopter. Were you in that chopper? If you're anonymous here, have a friend post the answer.

Congratulations to Paul! So, he's still on 107.5 as well? Or could they just carry his show?

I would just imagine that KHTC carrying Paul Christy's syndicated program is the last thing on Cox's mind. You see, Mr. Christy will probably be doing his program in typical Paul Christy style. This means that, among other things, his program would have personality, good music, warmth, fun, and the "human" touch. These are all qualities that Cox would NEVER consider.

Remember...this is the age of radio wasteland. This is the age of some little man sitting in his office in Atlanta dictating every single thing each and every radio station in his company will program, when a certain program airs, what songs they will play and won't play, when it will be played, what version/length of the song will be played, who is on the air, and at what time that person will be on the air.

These are sick times, my friend.

I can't remember what name he uses, but I hear he also does a show currently on The XM Radio 70' s channel.

Old Chicago

wasnt he using Eric Chase there??

I don't know if Eric/Paul even frequents the board, but I do remember a bit of West Coast Boss Radio history. As I recall, KFRC pulled a major coupe (sp?) by offering to deliver Mick Jagger to and from the Altamont concert via helicopter. (The roads to and from the concert were totally clogged and impassible.) That was their rented helicopter you see in the U-Tube video. Eric Chase and his PD, awesome morning talent Charlie Van Dyke were aboard, dropping off and, really, *rescueing" Jagger from the nightmare that Altamont became, when the Stone's security guys (Hell's Angels, for Godsake) beat that black guy to death with pool cues for the crime of approaching the stage. The Stones were a bit naive about Hell's Angels. Those guys took their jobs seriously. But I digress: How incredibly cool that someone *finally* has put the original Mo Fo DJ Eric Chase back on the air to do his thing. He gave Houston a bit of a taste of his talent at KRBE back in the 80s, enough to beat John Lander, but it is my understanding that Thompson Creative, who run this TKO syndication, plan to let him totally run wild like the EC of old. I don't know what markets they are in, but woah! Would I like to hear this! Guy Zapoleon once called him the best afternoon drive jock alive in the U.S. I would agree. Please, let them have an affiliate somewhere near me so that I can hear real f**ing radio again! Blart, you are exactly right in your analysis: Cox thinks jocks are some evil that must be tolerated, until they out and out track every shift. Lord it pisses me off. Put EC up against any other jock in his time period in any market in the country, and SEE ya. This sounds like he's paying me, but I only wish I could meet him some time. Does anyone know what stations carry TKO?

Here comes a wonderful perhaps last chance to hear a broadcaster
whose presence radiates so potently it infuses whatever he has
to say with enough pure personality to nearly overpower his
actual words. Chase has always been a compelling mixture of
cynical, dry, sexual, natural edgy energy --coiled behind the
lips of a samurai jock.
TKO made a brilliant addition to the dynamics of their line up with
this one-of-a-kind ratings grabbing vet, good enough to be one of
the Original BossJocks. Not Many of those left.
He also knows all the great places to eat in California and Texas. Can't
wait to chow down and listen loud.

I spoke with Paul this afternoon and he DOES plan on keeping his KHTC airshift...in addition to doing his syndicated deal.
