Paul Deanno To Do WeatherIn San Francisco

This info was posted to a Bay Area media site last week, and Paul Deanno posted it to Facebook today.
His last day on KOMO is August 24, after which he'll join KPIX-TV as chief meteorologist.
Fine opportunity for Paul, and a loss to theSeattle market.
He's great at what he does.
There's been some talk in SF media circles because the lady he's replacing was popular, and she's been let go after 16 years with the station.
But I hope viewers will quickly come to know and appreciate Deanno's work.
Incidentally, his predecessor also did reports for KCBS Radio, so we may also hear Paul Deanno there.

This is a big loss for KOMO4. They've been through a half dozen anchor teams on the morning news in the last decade. They ditched a very good weatherman (Todd Johnson) for Jim Castillo, who never clicked with the station or the morning team. When KOMO replaced Castillo, they found a real keeper in Deanno. Now they've got to try to find the right fit, again.

Keeping this on topic, Deanno was a rare TV guy who sounded great on radio.
 
Off topic? Not on your life. Though KOMO's weather people are primarily on TV, I don't even own a television. I wouldn't know about any of them if they weren't on radio.
And Paul Deanno may also end up on radio in San Francisco, just like his predecessor, who, incidentally, is still with the station. She was not dismissed, as earlier reports had indicated.
 
I'm hoping Rick van Cise can see his way back. Perfect fit for both Radio and TV. I'm pretty sure Komo can forgive you for jumpin ship! What do you think Rick?
 
Will always second guess that decision to leave my Fisher friends, they are such great people, as are the folks at 5, 13 and 7. This small world we work in thankfully tends to let bygones be bygones if the fit is right. Thanks for the support!
 
Yes, saw this today. Seth was inexperienced and very green when he started in Eugene, but obviously he has grown. Another example, though, of being in the NW helping you move up above others. The NW local news market has always been provincial in this sense. And this is no slight on Seth. I'm sure he is prepared to handle a major. However, Seattle tends to hire from Spokane, Portland, Boise, and, yes sometimes, Eugene.
 
Working at KOMO as a weathercaster or meteorologist is a little like being Tom Brady's backup quarterback. To say Steve Pool is deeply rooted in KOMO is an understatement, and I doubt he's going anywhere anytime soon. Unless someone is content to be a backup or morning weathercaster or meteorologist (and there are some, look at Rich Marriott), opportunity to be chief at KOMO is unlikely in the near future.

And it doesn't hurt being already employed by Fisher. While Seth likely got a pay increase to head north, his salary is probably a lot less than they'd have to pay to "import" a new employee from outside the area.

The ayem news is becoming more of a revenue generator than the evenings...so while the title may not be there, the morning weatherman may soon be more important to a station than its "chief meteorologist".
