Paul Harvey Dies at Age 90

My first day at ABC Radio in New York (1926 Broadway), I was in the newsroom, and they had these small monitors on the desks where the staff could listen to the network feed. As it came up on the noon hour, I hear the William Tell Overture come down the line. I was told that was ABC Chicago, and they were about to feed Paul Harvey. I don't know if the public knew about that. It may have just been internal. But it was the way the engineers in master control knew Chicago was up, the line was live, and they were ready to feed the most profitable show on the network.

I've learned taking a class in voiceovers that the last thing that goes is your voice and Paul Harvey has proven that to be true.He sounded nothing like his age.

May Paul Harvey rest in peace.

Thanks,
Kevin L. Sealy

I remember back in 1989 working at a small AM in the northeast and being forced by the PD to board op Paul Harvey News & Comment at 11:45am. At the end of the report, he has a distinct pause between.....Paul Harvey..............Good Day! The fun with drops in 5 seconds! LMBO! ;D
