Paul Harvey on Public Radio!

Well, here's a first. Here in Roanoke Rapids, First Media's WPTM has carried 'Paul Harvey News' for many years. Alledgedly, ABC pulled the program from the station. I don't know exactly why they pulled the program. WZRU Public Radio starting getting LOTS of calls about picking up Paul Harvey. Keep in mind, WZRU is a Standards/softer-than soft AC/B-EZ station, with NPR's anchor programs. Our audience is likely older than the average NPR station. Not thinking it was possible, I contacted ABC radio and asked if it was possible that we take their Armed Forces Radio non-commercial feed. After several weeks and many phone calls, we struck a deal and Paul Harvey News goes on WZRU (minus the spots, of course) tomorrow, September 1st. According to ABC radio, with the exception of AFRS, WZRU is the first non-commercial station (and NPR station) to take the program.

That is interesting. I know ABC has non-comm feeds, because Harvey is on Armed Forces Radio. However, my rep at ABC told me when we set it up they had never worked with a non-commercial station. Maybe, WKEU was before her time there. Thanks for the corrected info.

Re: Paul Harvey on Noncommercial Radio

More than twenty years ago, noncommercial WGAO-88.5 in Franklin, Masachusetts (whose signal I can sometimes get where I live) ran Paul Harvey, again without commercial spots. I believe they "covered" the commercials with PSA's.
