Paul Harvey

When did WWBA drop Paul Harvey? Are there other stations still carry it. Does ABC radio networks still carry it...I know Paul Harvey hasn't been doing much of his show due to his health, however did miss the people who fill in for him like Gil Gross, Paul Harvey Jr. It is a network show which means a lot of markets carry it. Call me "old-school" but I hate it when longtime radio show get dropped.

Mark Larsen was the one who wanted to can the show.

He threw a hissy-fit one morning and said how he was tired of giving up :05 mins. of his show at the bottom of the hour- at a time when he shines - to substitute hosts on Paul Harvey.
He said he wanted the show off so he could take that time.

The broadcast is gone, and has been replaced by a slightly shorter ABC news update. Some time savings.

I like Mark but think he went way overboard on this one.

If Paul Harvey was a factor for ratings in Tampa, you can believe it would still be on a station that actually had some.

I guess its now up to Mr. Larsen to prove that he can do better without the Ghost of Paul Harvey show.

Harvey underwent a medical procedure for his vision, then caught pneumonia. During recuperation, his wife of well over half a century, Angel, passed away at 92.

Harvey did record some fresh spots from the few remaining sponsors he has. Unfortunately, instead of having a rotating list of news men or women, like Gil Gross, Dallas based Ron Chapman has held the mic these many months. I'm thinking now that there are no big names sitting in, plus "ABC Radio" no longer has the clout now that its that in "name only", some stations are knuckling under to those who arent exactly fans....which may or may not include those local talk show hosts on the downside of their careers, who feel they need every minute to sell for themselves, or to tell the rest of us how great they are.

Ease up, Mark. Harveys probably not going to be back permanently, and may return to offer a final "Good Day." At that time, your station can use the 5 minutes for more of the same drivel we get the remaining 55 minutes.

Like him or not, there are many of us who realize Harveys program is the last of its kind, and indeed he may be the last of his kind as well. I hope not all his affilliates take the "kick him when he's down" attitude. Let's also hope that he either returns soon to his duties, or returns to signoff, as were I a local advertiser, I would like a resolution to the program as soon as possible.

They also dropped Paul Harvey at noon. Finally we get at least half of Boortz' show now. We lose the first and last hour. We only get part of Dennis Miller. I tune out after larsen now. I'm not a fan of the guy with the one hour show. I've rediscovered Glenn Beck. He is still good, but was so much better when he was local. WWBA needs to concentrate on what shows they are going to carry and not all this half assed partial shows. But first thing, they need to fix their signal if they are going to be real contenders.

WWBA might have had at least a minimal chance to find a sponsor for Paul Harvey if they had more than two sales people, and even with two sales people, they might have had the tiniest sliver of hope if even one of them had been in radio sales more than two months.

As for Larsen throwing a hissy fit, he is the only saleable asset on that station, correct Smedge? So maybe even WITH a real sales force, Harvey would have been out. Larsen has Maduri by the short hairs. I hope he is pulling on them with more than a little torque.

I wonder if Maduri wishes he had not caused an earlier hissy fit by Larsen, one that centered around a scheme to fill up inventory during Larsen's show, leaving Larsen without much to sell, thus cutting Larsen's compensation? It would be better for the company if the CEO had not caused extreme hostility and distrust in the mind of its only saleable asset.

Come on, Smedge! It's time for you to weigh in on this subject. I think you have a unique perspective on this!

I don't think most of his stations will kick him off like that. Not a surprising move by WWBA who also kicked off a Marconi nominee (Boortz) just as he got nominated. He deserves to be heard if he ever has the inclination to come back (I wouldn't blame him if he wants to hang it up). Paul Harvey is a legend, and you're right, the last of his kind.

With regards to Harvey, Chapman was off Wednesday morning. Paul Jr. rolled in....accomplished composer, author and writer...but just not the same program.

I think its time for closure here.

paul harvey and his fill-ins needed to go.

they may entertain the 70 yr olds.

whiny mark larsen is boring when he carries on about a subject for most of the 1/2 hour. even 10 minutes is too long to keep my attention

and him reading an article word for word really bores me.

wwba is now replaced on my presets when they dropped boortz
