Quite a guy. A real gentleman. Lucky enough to know him at HDH radio. Paul was a direct connection back to the good OLD days of radio, the real important days when radio was king. He had an intelligent and comfortable, friendly temperament. All those years gave him perspective.
I only knew one other guy who was from the heyday of radio and still working, Bob Albrecht who was my engineer at 99X in New York City. Bob was the original engineer for "The SHADOW" radio series (Only the Shadow knows....) and they were trying to make him quit by putting an elderly engineer on overnights at the CHR station. Bob was wary at first of me the kid, but once we had some time together he told a lot of amazing stories about what it was like in the old days. Terrific stuff.
Paul Hurd wouldn't burden you with the past. But only if you asked him, he could tell you an entire history of Boston radio. He knew everyone, and I dare say was respected by all.
