Paul Lotsof/Cave FM

Well, "Hello Dere" : It's been awhile since I posted here. Anyways, It's now been a year since the passing of "caveman Paul". I Really Miss being on the air at the Cave. I have a "soft spot" for my beloved Cave having worked there for 27 years & Paul putting up with me & Oona (my svcs/therapy chihuahua). Now my sources tell me that 97.7 is going to go from 6Kw non directional to 25Kw directional. Where the majority of the signal is gonna go is yet to be determined so, this will be interesting as this develops. In the meantime, "canyon country" is (in my opinion) just a reformulated version of KIMM-FM with Very Little classic country. To quote a phrase from my friend Mr. Horse : "no sir, I don't like it". Nevertheless, Cave's demise was inevitable with Paul putting it up for sale & then his unexpected death in the Cave's production studio. With no autopsy, I was unable to find out what actually killed Paul but from what Joaquin (the morning dj) told me, Paul's head was completely purple w/a trickle of blood coming from his left eye so, it was either a massive corronary or a blood vessel bursted in his brain or a combination of both. Oh, well. It's unfortunate that live radio is slowly going away from localization & being part of it's community. When I find out more regarding 97.7 in Benson, I'll let you know. Hope Everyone Is Doing Well. Aloha For Now, Amigos ! xoxo - Your Very Own, Frank Luna & Oona :)

Where do you get the idea... where the majority of the signal is gonna go is yet to be determined.. how do you think they filed for the permit if they didnt prove and show that?

Do Iguanas have radios? There is nearly nobody in the 60 dbu signal area. Waste of money, big time.

I wonder if the calls, KCNN, will get some kind of trademark warning from the "real" CNN.

Nothing they can do about it. 680 WCNN goes along just fine in CNN's hometown of Atlanta. Neither station brands as "CNN".

All the "Fox" branded stations across the country are fine. Those branding as "Fox News" or "Fox Sports" are licensing a brand, but say "Fox 102.3" in South Carolina is clear.

Indeed, it *is* unfortunate that the industry is creating *different* radio.

Yet, the writing has been on the wall for a couple of decades, it would seem.

The "red" area seems to be putting more signal toward Sierra Vista (and Mexico). Why would they be allowed to do that? (the Mexico part)

"As demonstrated in the contour maps on the following pages and pursuant to Annex I, Section 3 of the Agreement, the allotment at Cananea, Son. is considered as protected to 24 kilometers from the reference coordinates (Agreement, Annex I, §3.1.2) and pursuant to the Agreement,Annex I, §3.1.5, the proposed 40 dBu F(50,10) interfering contour does not overlap the protected allotment at Cananea, Son., thus resulting in no objectionable interference."

Why would they want to put less signal toward Sierra Vista then? That's the only population worth aiming for...

The 2002 authorization didn't cover SV with a 60dbu signal, either.

Community of license is still Benson.

We can thank terrain (or the lack thereof...) for propagating that signal like that.

Almost like it was designed that way.

It's sad they don't stream. Royalty must be to much

They do, its in two places on the homepage at kcnnfm.com

And it apepars that 104.1 translator is fed by KCNN HD2.. as its running a seperate format.

Not surprise... this is what tom trolland does.. he did it in grand junction... main on the analog/hd1 and several HD subs with translators

The 104.1 translator is apparently (or soon will be) running a "Cool Oldies" format. It seems they've run into some trouble getting the station on the air. Both stations appear very much targeted at Sierra Vista. As far as I can tell from their Facebook all the studios and offices are in Sierra Vista now, but I could be wrong. Log into Facebook

I appreciate some people trying to give local radio a go in Cochise County since Townsquare (after buying Cherry Creek) and Ted Tucker are the only other secular options in town. I wish them all the luck in the world making it work.

The translator isn't going to cover Sierra Vista at all; too far away for 250 watts to put a local signal in there. I believe I saw on Facebook that they only expect to cover Benson & Tombstone with the translator on 104.1 for Cool FM. It's supposed to be located on the 97.7 tower East of Benson just off I-10. Previously it was on a little tower behind the "Eyesore" singlewide on 5th Avenue in Benson.
