Paul McCartney performs on Late Show Balcony 7-15-09 - David Letterman

I wish Letterman had "needled" him a little more about Michael Jackson buying the rights to the Beatles songs. We all know that this is what caused the fallout between McCartney and Jackson in the mid '80s, and why they never spoke to each other again after that.

Sir Paul took the high road and had only nice things to say about Michael Jackson after his death. This is from Paul's official website:

By the way, I wish "Paul" would finally tell the truth: the real Paul McCartney died in 1966 and that other guy is just a look-alike to fool us all!
:p

That came off sort of "opportunistic" on Paul's part. Sort of like Brooke Shields speaking at his memorial when, she, too, likely hadn't seen or spoken to him in many years.

Yeah, the real Paul would never have recorded these songs that this fake Paul has stuck us with for all these years! ;D And the real Paul would never have gotten himself stuck with Heather Mills.

It was funny. Conan had Dana Carvey on. Dana just had to do his impression of Paul McCartney. Same night as Paul was on Dave's show.

Hard to believe that McCartney is 67 years old.

But then again I wouldn't be surprised if he had some plastic surgery; and we know he dyes his hair. But hey, the guy is still out there touring when he could be home counting his money.

I think the ex wife got all the money. That's probably why he is out there touring.

She got some money but not enough to put a dent into what McCartney is worth.

I think the guy tours just because he enjoys it. Plus the money he makes. ;D

McCartney has more money than God.

I still can't believe that back in the 1980s Michael Jackson outbid Sir Paul for the rights to the Beatles music. Maybe McCartney will try to buy back the rights now that MJ is gone.

As for touring, McCartney is a smart businessman. He know people will come out en masse to see him just to hear him sing some old Beatles and Wings tunes.

When you watch the video of Paul performing you can see all the women of all ages just smiling and cheering and screaming...etc....

So here is the question......of all the women in that outside audience of approx 250,000.......What percentage of them ( of legal age of course).........could Paul have taken back to his hotel............( to watch Hard Days Night)......... ;)

Paul has made some incredibly smart, and some incredibly stupid, business decisions:

SMART:  Starting his own publishing company (MPL Communications, Ltd.) to handle the rights and publishing to all his post-Beatle solo career work.  He has probably made more money from "Band on the Run" than from "Hey Jude" or "Yesterday."  So he learned from the Beatle debacle.

STUPID:  Telling Michael Jackson to buy music publishing.  In fairness, Michael may have ASKED Paul for business advice, but Paul should have kept that one to himself, at least until after HE acquired the rights to his own songs!

Not having a prenup with Heather Mills!  Who among us couldn't have seen where THAT one was going?  ::)  But ironically enough, since Paul doesn't own the rights to the Beatles' songs, Heather couldn't take that away from him!  ::)

The guy is simply too wholesome and too nice for his own good sometimes. All four came from a generation that did not think about things like cutting somebody else's throat to get ahead on the back, music, good name or wealth of another. I don't have to be so gracious to Michael Jackson, who was getting eaten alive by McCartney and probably used undue influence in McCartney's grief over the murder of John Lennon to get the rights to the music thinking that McCartney was so unoriginal that he could not create more and still eat Michael Jackson alive.

Yes, my bud, Paul McCartney, needs a biotch like me around, with an astute business sense. :-*

The rooftop thing is something the Fab Four loved, to wit: The rooftop of Abbey Road studios and now the Ed Sullivan Theatre.

Hmmmm...I wonder if he really is Billy Shears.
