Paul Mueller Quits WLNE?!?

Another board is stating that Paul Mueller abruptly quit WLNE. Anyone have the scoop? Was he upset that they had switched him to am's?

"Channel 6 vice president and general manager, said that Mueller's departure was "rather unexpected." He said he got a telephone call Monday from Carr, saying that Mueller "wanted to leave the news business immediately."

-------------

hmmm..... why the rush? This makes me think two things. Something or someone at WLNE really pissed him off (or) he has just encountered a challenge in his personal life and isn't in the mood to drag his ass into work 8 hours a day when things at home are falling apart. I'm just throwing out some guesses. Either way I hope that Paul finds the happiness that he is looking for.

In a reader comment posted to the story, "Al" writes:

"I met Mr Mueller in Cumberland last fall. He was vocally unconcerned about our local news. I sat a few seats away from him at a meeting where he continually mumbled derogatory comments about the structure of the meeting. He was a poor representative of channel 6 and, I am happy to see him go."

Hmmm...

It's a rough business. People snap for different reasons. I think the station should just replace him with a new male anchor from out of town. Bring in some fresh blood. They need a strong anchor to be the star of the station. That is what helps pull in ratings. People like Doug White and Walter Cryan. But let's get someone from a different city who has authority. An older guy. Perhaps in his 50's. I thiunk that is what the station needs. Go search ABC6. he's out there somewhere.

yes, a good strong anchor is out there..but, would channel six pay the bucks? Seems they're running as inexpensively as possible already. Ken Bell is good, weather is decent, they need a good strong anchor, and to stick with it for maybe years before they dent the ratings.

..good idea about getting a professional anchor for the news. Bell is good, weather is decent, but it seems, now more than ever, channel 6 will not spend the dollars for major market talent.

Which station in Providence has major market talent? Honestly, since the passing of Doug White and the final retirement of Walter Cryan, Providence hasn't seen much major market talent. I suppose Patrice Wood and Karen Adams are relatively good 50's market talent, but that's it, they're not going any higher.

WLNE has hired strong anchor talent in the past (John Sweeney, Dave Layman, Ann Conway, Larry Estepa, Walter Cryan out of retirement, etc.) over the past 3 decades. It just never works for them.
