It's been picked up for broadcast on suburban Chicago's "Nine FM" (a variety hits "Jack" style station), which is essentially what used to be the former WKIE/Energy a few years back. Saw the post about it over on the Chicago board.

By no means do I think this means a full-time dance format is coming back to Chicago, but it gives new dance music a little more exposure in the windy city. I'm all for that!

Nice one. The show always features some really good/quality Progreesive stuff. I wonder why they've picked up on it just now, and why on a Jack FM station instead of "the killer B.", or Piss FM (LOL, okay the station is a decent CHR).

CHRles,

I think with Steve Perun at the helm at KISS-FM, you may change your tune. We'll see what happens. I can't wait to see a real CHR battle between two legendary PDs.
______________

Well, I'll definitely keep an open mind if you've got some good words to say about him :)

Former PD of KIIS-FM/LA in the late 80s early 90s. LEGENDARY.
______________

Even earlier, Steve was on WLS-AM. He has done his time at personality and musically good CHR's.
______________

Agreed, but you also forget that most of the people that come to these boards weren't even born or listening to the radio when he was programming there. ;)

KIIS-FM is the pinnacle FM TOP 40 for me, but most recently, I would side with Z100.
______________

You calling Mr Perun and myself old?

You mean dance music is not called disco anymore?

Huh? It was renamed "Not So Hip Hop" by the sites #1 visitor known to hate Dance heads and their music? Tsk tsk tsk.

=)

Nah, it's always been "Z100" for me. In "Z100's" heyday, as the "flamethrower" (yes, I'm showing my age..36), nobody else in the U.S. could touch them. Those JAM jingle packages and Ernie Anderson sweepers from the 80's where the best CHR radio ever. Plus I just love the energy and vibe of New York City and the market itself. I've always thought L.A. was boring and too "laid back" for my tastes. And this same "laid back" attitude has always seemed to come off as part of KIIS FM too. I'd take "Z100" and the NYC market anyday over KIIS. But that's just my personal tastes. "Z100" and the old "Hot 103/97" in New York City in the 80's were the best two CHR's I've ever heard.

Today, yes, I would agree, Z100 is the top of the ice-capped mountain for me. They are as middle of the road as it gets. KIIS-FM LA is really more Rhythmic leaning for what I believe a true Top 40 to be, BUT, the market dictates the direction, and they have to take advantage of the audience they reach!

The show's been on some big stations for awhile, but flying below people's radar. While there are a few other things in the works, do you guys have suggestions on other stations we should be targeting? (This is Pat Gillen, who put the show on Nine).
