Paul Sullivan

My only radio job was at BZ way back when, and I don't have any insiders there anymore.

Anyone know what they think of Sully? How are his numbers? I think he's very very listenable.

I still haven't heard where I can see latest ratings...

The problem with the R&R numbers is that they're 12+, which are meaningless.

A perfect example is WRKO, the station this board is obsessed with. Every talker in town (EEI, TKK and BZ) is ranked top 10 persons 25-54, except WRKO. They're number 6 12+, according to R&R, but somewhere down in the mid-teens in persons 25-54, the only demographic that matters.

And don't believe the spin from the Social Security recipients about 35-64 or older demos. The ONLY ratings numbers that matter are 25-54. Ask any national sales rep. Millions of dollars are off the table unless you've got 25-54 listeners. Men matter, women matter. But only if they're 25-54.

Which explains why WRKO is so desperate.

All ratings are meaningless. They are just an arbitrary sales tool number with very little actual 'science' behind them. Great scam because they are the only game in town but one day all major cities will be covered by those little boxes like they have out at the old Great Woods which count the actual station a car is tuned to as it drives by, and I think we'll all be very shocked at what the real numbers are.

Thanks to nanobots, they will also know the make, model, year and color of the car, how many people are riding in it, their ages, sex and income and if they have a green card (sorry JAM'N, there goes your cume). Of course, I've covered all this in my daily letter to the editor of the Globe, but for some reason they never print them.

Oh well, off to feed my 37 cats and adjust the tin foil on my head to keep the radio beams out.
