Paula Abdul... Out!

Maybe the contestants will finally get some well-derserved criticism now. I for one got tired of her incesant rambling about people going out there and making it their own, while everyone else thought they were awful. Not sure if lack od Paula/Simon arguing will hurt the show though.

Flash forward 5 years...

Flash foward three years: "American Idol? Wasn't that some cheesy TV show about singers or something?"

Yeah. Any way we could vote the whole show off?

Oh well, I gave up on Idol after season two and haven't watched since, so I can care less.

Paula can always return to singing and dancing. I hear that MC Skat Kat is available for a possible reunion. ;D

In the words of Craig Fergusson ... "De, dee, dee-dee-dee, de, dee deet ... It's a great day for America, everybody!"

The whole things smells like an off-season publicity stunt to me. My bet is there will be a "surprise announcement" about Paula coming back to the show sometime before the next season begins in January. Either way, count me among those who couldn't care less.

And wasn't Paula married to Emilio "gee I don't want to use my father's name even though he is a huge star because I want to make it on my own in Hollywood and look how well that turned out" Estevez?

Could be possible, but for the most part the local segments are taped now, and replayed during the live competition next Spring. Continuity would be a mess with a Abdul appearance next year.

The last episode of American Idol I watched was the episode with KISS, Cyndi Lauper, Lionel Ritchie, Steve Martin, Rod Stewart, and Regis' cousin singing in a bikini. Some thoughts on this:

* Old guys wearing makeup in 70s jumpsuits are not entertaining! They were pudgy!

* Great line-up (if it was 1985)!

* Now I know what would have happened if "Star Search" mated with the "Jerry Springer Show".

Surely if they bounce Idol to sister network MY NETWORK TV, the ratings of the show would drop enough that the show would be canceled (along with MY NETWORK TV).

I don't think that's necessary. If the four judges in this past season isn't what will make "Idol" jump the shark, the exit of Paula Abdul will. It's the beginning of the end of "American Idol" as we know it. (And I feel fine...)

Not likely. My Network hasn't been a landing place for lower-rated Fox shows in the past, so there's not a reason to suspect it would somehow be the purgatory where Idol would go when it's no longer doing the magic it needs to do for Fox.

I have zero interest in the show, but fail to see the hostility towards it either. People singing pop songs hardly strikes me as worse than any number of other types of entertainment out there. I've "purposely" ignored many shows, but the mere fact they don't interest me doesn't make them somehow horrible for their very presence on one out of 300-something channels.

American Idol has lost one of the best judges they've ever had! She was at least one of the top 10, all time!

I thought American Idol came on ABC last night when I read this thread. I should pay more attention.
No, I shouldn't.

Not sure how you can have a top 10 when there's only ever been 4 judges???

That is because it is so "in your face." If it were possible to completely "avoid" Idol, I certainly would. But every newscast on every network seems to have something about Idol. I would certainly avoid or boycott it, if that were possible. My thinking is that if I were that curious, I would actually watch the show! ::) This reminds me of the same type of overkill hype that Survivor got a few years ago. Now Jon and Kate are receiving this same type of breathless publicity! I knew that everyone would be famous for 15 minutes, but I thought they would actually have to DO something to become famous! ::) I will be glad when so-called "reality" TV goes the way of the "variety" show! ::)
