Paulson going to K rock? is that true???

So anything is possible.

I don't know if this rumor is true or not. I have no inside information.

But, if it is true (and that's a really big "if"), that could mean a major format change for 93.7. Even though the Free-FM brand name version of non-political talk tanked, I think that non-political talk could fly if done well. And Scott Paulsen is one of the best around at doing non-political talk. If they can hire him away from Clear Channel, maybe they could do a major turn-around. It wouldn't be the first time a station built itself into a success around talent raided from a rival.

I don't know for sure if the Pittsburgh audience would buy K-Talk, but if they can sign Paulsen, I'd say their chances of making a go of it about double.

I agree Radio Realist That Scott Paulsen would do very well on a non political talk station. He is very well known and is extremely successful on DVE. If he leaves DVE, I think he will be most remembered for the morning show of Paulsen & Krenn. I still can't find any sources of Scott leaving DVE to go to 93.7. I don't see it happening, but you never know. If we ever do get another talk station in Pittsburgh, I would like to see it with all local talent.

I would like to see it with all local talent.

That will never, ever happen. Even if all the shows are produced locally with people sitting in front of mics located in Pittsburgh, most of the hosts will be people imported from out of town. You'll never see a radio station with nothing but local, home-grown talent.

A just heard on a Pgh radio show that Paulson's move to K-Rock was anounced yesterday. He said that Scott will replace the Kidd Chris show. Didn't see it anywhere else, though...

On my way home today, I flipped on the Kidd Chris show for a minute and I got to say, I think it is one of the worst shows I have ever listened to.

Amen Todd. I hope it is true that he replaces Kidd Chris. I can't stand him. All he does is make fun of Pittsburgh and tries to be a Howard Stern ripoff. Paulsen would do very well if he replaced Kidd Chris. But this all hear say right now. I wouldn't believe it until I see it.

cbs pittsburgh...10 years too late...and all their eggs in one basket...why am i not shocked...

So this is true? Where has it been announced? If this is true, K-Rock has a real chance. With Opie and Anthony, mornings and Paulsen in afternoons, this station isn't going anywhere.

I heard a DJ on The UnShow on 1550 (WURP) The Edge's podcast say that Paulson was going to KROK, and that he had heard that announced two days ago. Didn't say where he heard it.

Is a non-compete S.O.P.?

It would help KROk greatly to get Paulson, but I wouldn't listen...

As of Saturday, 12/16/06, shortly before noon, Paulsen was still on the 'DVE website.

Clear Channel does many things in a slipshod manner, but they usually manage to remove departing personalities from their websites as soon as the personalities' departure becomes certain.

It therefore strikes me that maybe Mr. Paulsen is renegotiating his contract, and has met for talks with the folks at K-Rock, and is waiting to see which company will make him the better offer.

I do not have any inside information. This is 100% pure speculation on my part. If it turns out that isn't the case, then remember that I said I was just speculating. But if it turns out to be true, I shall act suitably smug about being the first to post this.

And, on the subject of pure, unadulterated speculation, if Paulsen does move to K-Rock, might that signal a switch away from music format radio over to non-political talk? Or would they stick with the same batch of music combined with more comedy bits and skits?

I heard all of this from a CBS manager in a Top 10 market (and actually he told me Scott was moving to B94, don't know if that's of significance or he's just not thinking of it as K-Rock...). Friday night was to be Scott's last show on DVE, then he has to sit out the non-compete.

If you're a market leader with instant name recognition, absolutely. Most morning show talents in the top markets have to sign these, and sometimes even small markets with separately-owned stations. The thing is, if you sign a no-compete, the company usually has to pay you to not work...if you're signed to one and they don't want to pay you for that time off, it's not enforceable in a court of law. Since Pennsylvania is a right-to-work state, I believe that would be the case.

If I was in charge at Clear Channel (and I'm obviously not), I think I'd be willing to bet 6 months of Scott Paulsen's pay that Infinity will once again blow it, and even if they put Scott Paulsen on the air, it will be kept such a secret from the listening public that even Scott's biggest fans won't know where he has moved to. I'd keep the money and let Infinity under-promote Paulsen down the same deep, dark hole they've sent all of their other talent down.

I just was on the DVE website as of 6:00pm today 12/18/06. Scott Paulsen's name is off the DVE Website.

From www.scottpaulsen.com:

The Scott Paulsen Radio Broadcast in on hiatus. In the meantime, please enjoy these past commentaries. On behalf of both myself and Kit, thanks for your twenty years of support on WDVE - we wish you the merriest of Christmases! I'll be making a major announcement concerning a new radio show on a new radio station right after the first of the year!-Scott

Good; it's about time things were shaken up a bit. IMHO, Opie & Anthony (AM drive), Scott (PM Drive and as local image) and Loveline could make 93.7 matter again if promoted correctly.

Could be B (for buzz) 94. Or K-Talk for a companion to K-DKA.

if promoted correctly.

Sadly, those three words are something that the people running 93.7 don't seem to have a clue about.
