PAX TV is changing to I

hey everyone I just wanted your thoughts on this I pulled the article from the PAX TV website
PAX TV IS CHANGING TO i

We are excited to announce that PAX TV is changing its name to i. We will introduce the i brand name on PAX TV on July 1, 2005, and during the summer months, you will see on-screen identities featuring both the new and existing brands and on-air promotional spots informing you of the change.

Many of your favorite PAX TV shows will continue to air on i, and we will be adding new programs to the schedule in the future. The i schedule will feature a mix of entertainment programs including dramas, comedies, movies, sports and news that appeal to a variety of interests.

Already know about that for awhile. Bud Paxton wanted to unload the network because he isnt making any money

Supposedly, Byron Allen, who's hosted a number of TV shows, bought the Network. I don't know how true that is, but from my understanding, if he did by it, it was supposed to be network TV geared toward African-Americans like BET or TV-One. My information is a bit old, so I don't know how true it is, but I do remember hearing this.
______________

It's not true. Byron Allen expressed interest in buying the network, but no deal has been publicly announced. If such a deal were announced, it would take several months to clear all the appropriate paperwork at the FCC and actually close the deal.

No one has bought this network. As I understand it, Paxon is taking the programming on his stations back to wall-to-wall infomercials - with a slight twist: he's allowing program producers to buy time to run entertainment programming. My understanding is that the independently owned stations that affiliated with Paxon are bailing out fast.

NBC is fit to be tied over this new situation. The network was not consulted, even though it still owns 32% of Pax. NBC says this is hurting their investment. Furthermore, Paxon canceled their news/advertising sales deal with NBC stations as of July 1. (that's why NBC5 news no longer repeats on KPXD.)

Thanks for the clarification. As I stated, my information was old and I never heard that it was finalized. Furthermore, I don't know where Byron Allen would get that kind of cash. I wouldn't think that for someone who has bounced around as much as he has, would have the kind of money to buy a network. I realize PAX is struggling, but they still reach quite a few households. Paxson's heart was in the right place, unfortunately it just didn't work.
______________

I think Paxon's heart was in the right place, but he didn't have the money to back it up. That network never got the kind of programming or promotion it needed to be a real success.

The idea of repeating successful prime time programming was a sound one. It's cheap and can draw enough of an audience to pay the bills. But the backbone of any network is going to be it's original programming. Pax tried, but never got the kind of promotion they needed to give their shows a chance. I think they also stumbled somewhat in the way they treated the investment by NBC.

Pax obviously was hoping NBC would buy the whole network. Once NBC was in for 32%, Pax stopped trying and started to look to NBC for ideas and help. NBC gave them some free programming and other assistance, but never bit on the idea of buying 100%. Instead, NBC bought Telemundo. When that happened, Pax shut down a lot of their communication with NBC and sounded rather upset. It was at this point that the accusations and (I think) a lawsuit started between the two. All that did was divert Pax's attention from the things they needed to be doing. The ratings suffered and the network finds itself in the shape it's in today.
