Pay-for-play...good or bad

Pay-for-play...some say its illegal, others point to loopholes...some say its bad for radio for turning away listeners, others say its the only revenue stream left after google decimates the industry...but with only a few select stations (WBZ and Magic) able to be both safe enough for mass appeal needed to sell soap, will pay for play be the revenue stream to save the industry?

a sign of the times... and bad... much the same as a magazine I've done some work for... they base their feature articles/cover story on what labels pony up the most for advertising.

No foul if paid airplay is properly announced as having been paid for and identifying who's paying. After all, nobody HAS to listen and, if they don't like what's being played, they won't listen.

good point but I bet they wouldn't do that.

How is Google going to do that? Google isn't in my car with me on the way to and from work last time I checked.

Perhaps a record company could sponsor an hour of their music with a local jock playing along with it, with bumpers occasionally that it is paid time?

But if they don't disclose sponsorship paid airplay has a name: Payola!
